Jorge,
Post your xml file for the lathe that you are using.

Jorge,
Your threading quality will only be as good as your lathe "system".
It's that simple. Do a scribe test.

I turned the control on and off and the behavior was the same.
WHAT CONTROL?

Are you using the threading wizard to generate the code?
Do you have any backlash in the Z or X axis?
You should not need to do anything. Do a simple scribe test as that will tell you a lot.

Tangent Corner / Re: Restore Lathe Tailstock
« on: April 19, 2011, 05:22:00 PM »
What to do with a worn tailstock.
All was machined based on the tailstock center lines.
-2 made //  to 1
-base attached to the tailstaock and 3 made // to 2
-A right angle used to mount and then 5 made // to 4
Then i also added a base and machined it //  in all planes.
The center is true to all surfaces .....used a nice carbide end mill. Notice i milled a flat on the top
of the tailstock so i could mount it to the mill table. I removed the tailstock center holder and used a nice long piece of  ground round
to indicate it in.
Done three of them like this....no grinding....  ;)

I dont like epoxy because your going to get metal into it and it may mar the lathe bed surfaces.

I have not tested every version above 3.042.32 but have not seen any reports of threading problems above 3.042.33.
So anything above them should work.

Check your board to see that the amp setting is correct for the motors.
Make sure the motors are wired correctly.

Upgrade your Mach Version and the problem should go away.
Let us know how things go.

You should be using  Mach3 version 3.042.32 and above and if not upgrade.
I assume the encoder is only giving you 1 pulse per revolution....ie; same as if you were using a single slotted disc. Multi slotted
discs or encoders are not supported for threading and will not provide for greater accuracy even if they were.
Are you providing for 3 to 5 pitch lengths to allow the Z to accelerate to desired speed?
Do you have any backlash?
Is the rpm fluctuating or the spindle slowing down when cutting the thread?
You may want to have a look at the Threading on The Lathe write up located in Members Docs.
Do a scribe test.

To do "rest"machining for your profile try this.
Offset 1 -Make an offset of the profile for cutting the profile outline using the small end mill.
Offset 2 - Make an offset based on a larger end mill of the profile. When done it should make a path that it can cut, thus it will not get into tight spots.

Now you pocket offset 2.
Now use select offset 1 & 2 and pocket the inside with a tool.
Now cut the profile based on offset 1.

I don't know what your profile looks like.
Fool around with the above in LC.
Sometimes LC pocketing leaves something to be desired!

Nicolas,
LC is fine for offsetting, cutting out a profile, and "basic" pocketing. If you want to do fancy stuff then you need different software expecialy for 3D stuff.
That software is anywhere from say $200 to $2000, so once you decide then you pay the price.

BTW,
Thought you were taking a look at all the different software available......I was wondering which one you would select ......
gets old after a while! ;)  :D >:D
