General Mach Discussion / Re: getting no motion

It would be the distance / .010". You moved one direction say .2", actualy you should move twice in the first direction just to make sure that all play is taken out.
When you  move the opposite direction your off  by say .010" and that is due no linear axis movement. The motor will be tuning but the axis movement is just taking up
the slack in the system.

You can also just move in one direction and then jog in say .001" increments the other way and you will see that it took 10 jogs @.001"  to get movement.

There are some controllers that required the backlash be set in pulses but that is not the case in Mach.

My 50-50-50 rule which you may want to consider.
50% - The max velocity is 50% of where your steppers will start to skip
50% - Set the shuttle Wheel setting in configuration to .0050  to .050 ( .5 too slow )
50% - Backlash speed
Not sure how the above works for servos.

You need to measure the backlash. That is done by moving in one direction and then moving in the other to see how much lost motion there is.
I use use steppers and thus rather servo tuning stupid so I leave that to those with experience on it.

The machine didn't have backlash issues with the anilam controller

Did you test to see how much backlash you have? You do have backlash it's just a matter of how much.

You can find whatever xml was working for you by going to the xmlsbackups directory of where Mach
is installed. You'll find a copy of the old xml file there.

Steve,
Off thread here somewhat, but think it's worth a few postings  about  what is being used to assist you in creating the Gcode for the parts you need to machine.
At the hobby level it is very hard to justify spending a lot of money to make life easy.
CamBam is certainly worth the purchase and was an easy transition for me to use. Has some nice features in it. Haven't tried the 3D part of it as i am still fooling with MeshCam.
I went to 3D training from work for 3 weeks, after that didn't want to even look at a pc at home. The worst part is between all the software used is that i find myself cursing all of them on the use of different keys to manipulate the graphics display.

Save that old grasscutter motor and put a belt to a used car alternator along with a good battery and inverter.
Poors mans generator!  ;) You may want also consider having the inverter in the car / truck with wires to use both ways. That's what a friend did, provides option on use and works well.

Yep, those solar lights for the lawn provide lighting for numerous rooms on loss of power. Get them on sale as i found them for $2 a piece and included the nicad batteries.

We lucked out and had no power failure.

I mentioned to the better half not to worry about loosing power since we could just bond and live on love over the weekend.
After some thought, she said I would probably be darn hungry after three days. So made sure I had an extra filled gas bottle for the grill.  :D

Steve,
Nice to have the gcode to create multiples of the same part. Look forward to another interesting thread.
Still using MeshCam and Cambam?

« on: September 05, 2011, 07:59:24 AM »
bonohsato,
How to drill holes is covered in the LC Manual see Tutorial #1 , pages 41 - 47.
I would recommend that you draw the holes on a single layer in CAD as that makes selection easy or even create multiple layers showing holes based on
operation to be done. Just as easy to also use "Sel in Box" and/ or  individualy select each hole in the graphics display.
No need to draw the holes to scale since your going to drill them based on a defiined drill tool.

You can also manipluate the Gcode keeping the pathing to the holes, then you can simply go line by line for location but then manualy drill all of them and go back and then tap them.

Whatever works for you,

Additionaly you may want to check out some settings
go to  Config>Toolpath Configuration .....see if you have tool position checked. There are other settings available for what and how things are displayed.

what does MPG stand for
Manual Pulse Generator - one can use an encoder to manualy send pulse info to the drives for axis movement

there is no s Button on this screen because the screen is set to 1024??
Don't think that is the case but rather it is just missing..... never really looked into it since i never missed not having it on the screen

when i hold an arrow key down jogging will continue as long as the button is down
Yes

Quote
but when i try this it still only increments one value for every button press?
because your in incremental jog mode, look at the jog flyout screen and the highlighted box indicates what jog mode you selected

BTW, all in the manuals, but there could be a wrong in your xml  so post it,
