General Mach Discussion / Re: Building a new PC
« on: September 29, 2011, 05:28:51 PM »
The pc dosen't need to be the greatest , as compared to just a few years ago costs are low,  and you can get a lot for your money these days. It's hard say that  some pc will not be problematic. A few years ago i took a different approach and had one built ( cost about
$60 extra as compared if I had done it myself....but......the local company guarenteed it to work to my satisfaction for CNC work or they would replace or change out any component of it until it worked. If the component cost more then i would pay the difference in price. Can't beat that!
This is the basic components that mine has:
- Asus motherboard - M2N68-AM SE2
- 2 GIG Ram
- AMD  64X2 Dual Core Processor 5200+ 2.7 Ghz
- Asus graphics Card - EN9600GSO
- Rosewill PCI pp card - RC302

The PPS in the driver test will only change by 1 at 25khz. No changes were required and note that i didn't buy the best of components.

I am happy with it but really can't say you would be,

General Mach Discussion / Re: New Computer, now stepping problem

With drivertest the old CPU was testing at about a 1800, the new CPU is testing at 3400.

Not sure what you are meaning by 1800 or 3400.  You run the drivertest to see if if there are any problems as they relate to the
kernel speed you are setting. No need to use a higher than required kernel speed and it is related to how manny pulses are required
to turn the motors for a desirable velocity and acceleration. Steppers are limited in usable rpm. Computers vary as to the the kernel speed which can be used. As you have found out the user should check the tuning of the motors and not assume past settings will work.

May want to mention what version of Mach you are using.

Glad you got it working, :)

LazyCam (Beta) / Re: I can't load dxf to get g-code to mill
« on: September 26, 2011, 07:26:28 PM »
Spencer m,
You need to import the dxf into a program, which will then provide Gcode based on how you want to machine the piece, and use the Gcode / file in Mach.
ie. Use Lazycam to import the drawing, define what you want to do, and then post the generated Gcode to Mach.
Hopefully this will get you started in the right direction,

wouldn't want to be associated with the a-holes that seem to hang out here anyway

Your request is our pleasure.

Brad,
I thought you were going to deal with the license issue a few weeks ago.
Comming back to dinner with different clothes on dosen't change anything.
So what say you?

I wonder how many on this thread actually bought $16K CAM software to run their $150 CNC.

The above implies it's ok to use a pirated copy of Mach because of a cost. It is the equivilant of buying a machine and then stealing your tooling. So a user spends a few grand on machinery to use cnc but spends nothing to run it or the equivilant of buying a PC and using a hacked copy of windows.

At work one is not allowed to install any software without proof of license and if found to have cracked  software on their PC they are fired
without question.

How sad it is that someone uses a cracked copy of Mach, would come on this forum to steal and personaly insult other members,
and then justifies their behavior for acceptance.

Mach's Developement is not stopping and to move forward a lot of ground work is required so the advancement can be easier.
So what seemed like a 6 month task for Brian is turning out to be a few years.

The goal of LT was to provide a better replacement for the Turn module in LC. ART accomplished that task but unfortunately didn't finish a few of the shortcommings
in the to do list. Even with those not done LT exceeds LC's turn module by leaps and bounds.

As anyone progresses in the things they want to do,  additional software will be required and just need to pay the price for the advanced capability desired both in learning and cost.

Never know what someone will donate for free. Most of the free just comes with unacceptable shortcommings depending on what you want to do.

You can avoid any of this happening if you just create layers of the machining task you are going to be doing

Maybe like the attached......

The white scale line is an indicator of distance relating to viewed graphics area. If you change the viewing area you will see that scale change. The lower left  bottom hole
is located the same distance from o,o in your drawing even the diameters are different.

On import LC uses the same location for the starting point, namely 0,0 if set as the default / as drawn checked, but, if you are fooling around with the available tools, such as Tools>Scale Drawing LC will change the
0,0 location of the drawing to the extents of the any drawn objects.

You can avoid any of this happening if you just create layers of the machining task you are going to be doing as suggested and highly recomended in the manual.

I sure hope that they're paying you for all that good work.

I recieve a big payment each and every time a Mach user is able to use one of the manuals to make their hobby
enjoyable and reduce the learning curve associated with it. The effort provides me with a good feeling of having contributed
to a great community of folks in here. In the end I become rich in something other than a name.

Such is the spirit of all those that provide countless hours of their time for others.
