For 4 years there is no possibility, so you did not learn what's come on in this

Now it's 4 years, ??? and another machine, and using who knows what computer , BOB, etc you are using. ::)
Frankly, if you haven't solved the other three machines, or even addressed what was suggested in the other posts.....
you will end up at the same place only with a more complex situation to deal with. Then numerous posts and time will be spent trying to help
you and you won't do what was suggested.  :( Thus no closure on anything and the story will continue. Probably will go onto a 5th machine and start all over. ;)

General Mach Discussion / Re: Stepper motors seem a LITTLE slow
« on: October 19, 2011, 05:17:14 PM »
I found from testing here that some steppers will start to act funny at higher temps no matter what the rating is, missing steps, etc, etc. The higher voltage will allow higher rpm as the pulsing goes from a rather dc to a ac and that frequency gets limited similar to an RC circuit. In fact, one can actually mount the motor and turn the shaft at different rpm and measure the voltage generated from it and see at what rpm it drops off. Any voltage in excess of that is useless and the drives may not be able to handle it.

Irrelevant of the above, I would imagine that  the torque is at the bottom of the motor curve when at 200 in/ min. The motors are underrated for even a small metal lathe in my opinion even with the gearing.

Fwiw.....

Did you ever get a single axis to work correctly on your mill using the G540?  ???
Now your venturing onto a 4th / different machine.

Dan, yep probably the culprit, been there and done that but mine usualy puts the end mill into the surface of the piece.... ;)

Seems it's not a repeatable problem which makes it difficult to answer your question. ???

Have you read the manual on how to set up the keyboard keys in config?

So a geckodrive G540 doesn't work with 3.3V?
It's made to work with both voltages.

Quote
So is 5V or 3.3V the standard for Hi signals on the parallel port?
A lot of the new computers are 3.3 volts, some are dual voltage, can buy dual voltage cards , usualy there is a switch or jumper on the card
to set the output volatge. Have a look in the Mach3 Manual about Logic signals .

PC cords are usualy limited in length and you will / may have problems if they are long. Even in industry wiring signal length is limited at higher voltages
but amplifiers are used when needed but not deisrable.

Did you try the motors with the BOB removed? Is the reset button flashing?

WB1,
Test per what Tweakie posted. Remove the BOB, use the attached xml file. See if the motors respond, if they do then try the bob.
Make sure you that the BOB has 5V going to it.
Of course you will need to revise the motor tuning based on your system.

Good grief WB1.
How in the world do you expect someone to have a look for what is wrong with your setup with a reply like

I don't even know what you would call my BOB but I can tell you its Cheap and Chinese

The attached pic was done per the manual ( pages 63 to 65 ). See attached pic. Note that you must select all of the letters and apply the settings. If you only don't, then machining of the unselected text will be done per LC cut default settings.
