I don't know what types of files FreeCad can export to. Manny programs can export a DXF file. Different programs import different types of files.
Cambam will not open an .ast. Some programs require a vector based file and produce gcode while there are programs that use graphic files and can create gcode from it.
Then there are programs that require a file created from 3D CAD. All depends on what you want to do, how much you want to spend ( maybe nothing) but irrelevant
need to "walk down learning curve lane".
For what you show in the attached pdf you could draw that in Cambam and get the gcode, or you could use a wizard, or you could draw it in CAD but export as a dxf
and then use LazyCam or some other program to get the gcode. Or you can even do the code manualy.
Suggest you take a look at the Cambam tutorials and how to use the program.
