Its not piracy to buy a license is it?

You can buy whatever you want.
You have purchased a pirated license and it will be your responsibility to resolve the matter with the provider.
Till then don't expect much help on this site.

Mach4 General Discussion / Re: Is Mach4 really Hobby Material?
« on: January 17, 2018, 08:57:05 AM »
It should work as intended ... in its most basic form.
And building on what Russ said,

And that must also include the external motion controller.
One needs a horse and a wagon to join the wagon train to venture out West.

I am guessing it is your feed rate and you are skipping if using a stepper.
Post your xml file you are using and maybe someone will take a look.

what is the maximum linear speed a probe can be launched into the surface?

It depends on how much travel into the material you can tolerate. The axis  must decelerate to a stop
after contact is made. For repeatable accuracy I approach  at max velocity and then  probe at slow feed rate and do not "double probe". Most of my probing is done manually for selected points or tool touch off. You can calculate it all.

jeep534,

See the attached file which shows the changes done to Mach3 from version 52 to 62. I don't know what changes were done for 66 as some users have found issues when using it.  062 seems to work fine here.

Mach4 General Discussion / Re: Lathe Tool Table Setting Tools Help
« on: January 16, 2018, 05:54:24 PM »
Don't know squat about Mach4 Lathe. Good grief would have thought that after 5 or 6 years they would have it done..........anyway!

FWIW,

Tool tip direction is used along with the tool tip radius for modifiying the controlled point location when applying left or right compensation. ( G40, G41, G42). Most gcode provided by CAM / CAD is precompensated these days.

For setting up a tool table suggest using  the master tool concept. There are a number of ways to populate the tool tabel and to each their owne. I personaly try to keep it simple and work in
Machine Coordinates since the X tool offset is in terms of radius and with the master tool controlled point set at X and Z=0 all the other tool offsets  will be based on the actual DRO readings.

For Mach3 I  use a tool screen wich allows me to populate the tool table via probing.
Very fast, extrenely accurate / repeatable and easy to use. Probably would be the first thing I would  desire  in Mach4 Lathe should I ever go there.

pawl,
Understand where your coming from. So keep it simple, just provide what you envision on your sketch and surely the fabricator will get it done and charge you accordingly.

Not  having some reasonable amount of knowledge, of what someone needs to do with the information to fabricate something from the given info or specifications, suggests  you have room to grow in your trade.

Take Care,

I would suggest that you learn and use a CAD/CAM program for CNC work. Even some of the lower end programs  have CAD programs which are built into the program and provide for file conversion for numerous formats on export. I included some basic information about DXF file exports  in the Lazyturn Manual, Appendix "C".

Paul,
Lazycam requires a version 12 dxf drawing. The drawing you posted is a 3d drawing. The drawing is not appropriate for turning.

Tangent Corner / Re: Looking for ideas / advice, i think :)

Dave,
Here are a few suggestions, for what they are worth, with the understanding that I am just being
candid in my response.

1. Define your plan to address your "temporary" financial situation. Expect 1 month for say each $10,000 of
yearly income as a time line.
2. Define what you want to do both short and long term work wise. The first step to achieving any goal is to envision     it. Remember that you can have anything you want but when you decide you must pay for it.
This may be the hardest  mental work you ever did my friend. It includes analyzing skill sets and the application of     them to current manufacturing needs.Prioritizing tasks to be done, and there are a lot of them that will be generated,
    from the thinking.

Now go take of yourself  and no one else. You are not worth anything to anybody if you are not at peace.
Exercise ( just a nice daily walk will do), eat healthy, don't drink ( you need a clear mind), be at peace with your master ( he is always with you). Work hard on #2, relax / rest , and by all means do something that gives you enjoyment.

I just have to say a few things:
- You will progress or fade away. So you build on any skill set you currently have. You will be learning forever
no matter what profession / work one is in. If not your fading away!
- Understand that YOU have a buisness and that is simply to make money. Matters not if you work for someone else.
Change your thinking about work is.
- Consider investing in your buisness, namely you, ie; part of the plan may be to take a course to get certified in            welding
- Get used to the idea that you will need to find a job over and over again. That is the dynamic times we live in.
So at any time for the buisness have a fall back plan in place. You will work again and it could be more rewarding
than before. Nothing is ever perfect, pay is great-job sucks, job is great- pay sucks, just the way it is.

You may not realise it, but this may be the greatest opportunity you ever had........since for the first time in a long time
YOU are taking control of your buisness! Allow no time for pitty parties, always think positive, plan and implement,
now go do what needs to be done!

FWIW,
RICH
