General Mach Discussion / Re: mach 3 turn doubt

Have a look at Appendix "F" in the LazyTurn Manual which can be found in Member's Doc's.
Also there is a Manual for called Using Mach3Turn which provides more information.

General Mach Discussion / Re: DRO works, motor does not
« on: February 06, 2013, 06:33:53 AM »
Frankly i never trust the motor color coding and always confirm it.
- You can measure for continuity between each wire associated with one of the motor coils. Lets call them 1,2,3.
So 1-2  and 2-3 should have equal resistance and 1-3 should be greater and equal to their sum.
Actualy one should measure inductance if they have an appropriate meter to do so.
if you do not have a meter:
You touch 1-2 and you will feel the resistance when trying to turn the motor shaft by hand. If you touch 1-3 the resistance to
to turning will be greater. When doing this the other wires should not be touching. If you find continuity between coils the motor
   is bad.
Above done with no power to the motors from the drive. Don't go measuring amperage, voltage from the drive to the motors as you can blow a drive.

Now make note of the color coding.

Do the same for the other side. The amperage is set based on how the motor is wired. Go to the Gecko site and read the info
about current setttings for different motor wiring configurations.

Suggest you just  set the amp for 0.5 amps. Didn't see the manual for your drive so read the manual on how to set the amp rating.
May want to set the microstepping to 10us.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Special code for threading?

Hang on... threading pull out, I can't even get the pitch right yet.

A bug or not a bug ......that is the question. ;)
Mach threading was fixed quite some time ago. There is no "bug" if it is used in the context of what was fixed and how it works. If the threading cycle is not working correctly for DSPNC then it is a problem with how the external device is trying to manipulate or control the threading cycle.

Rework is  required to the threading code to address hardware / controllers which use encoders. One should not make a mistake and compare different controllers.

Would be interesting in what defined procedure DSPNC used for verification of rpm or feedrate accuracy.

I think he needs to play with the "L" option"

True.....BUT.......
The L ( chamfer ) in Mach is the number of  spindle rotations in degrees  over which the tool will pullout. So for L=90 that would be 360/90=1/4 revolution.  For a fast spindle speed it could be impossible since there may not be enough time for a device and "system" to respond. The spindle needs to slow down. If a delay is present that would screw up the pullout.

I don't know where the pullout is done in the actual Mach code for threading and as such DSPNC would need to address it if it even can.

Not a Mach "bug" but rather just another item an external controll needs to address since it's playing around with a Mach's threading cycle.

Answer TP's question's.

Post a picture of your machine.
Give a discription of your controller, drives you are using, stepper info and how wired.
What version of Mach are you using?
What operating system?

Are you playing with your mouse when running a program?

Pat,
Below are links to the manual and Copycat program:

The NFS license can be used on more than one computer. I am not sure what is included in the current NFS addons but the
the updated version for Mach 4 will not include Copycat if i recalll correctly. You can just put your license in the directory
where Mach is installed.

BTW, I use an XBOX 360 with Copycat as it makes for easy use of the program. I will remark that i haven't used the program
in some time now and  would review the manual before using it.
