General Mach Discussion / Re: User DRO numbers
« on: April 17, 2015, 07:50:56 AM »
In machscreen under Design tick Overview and you will see a listing of everything about the screen. Now if you create a spread sheet of that listing you can easily sort by DRO.

Just a thought FWIW,

General Mach Discussion / Re: Threading problem?

For those following this thread......

That's why one should always click the button to calc the number of passes just to make sure that
your velocity is ok for the intended thread at some rpm.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Spindle Controls

Software - Well the post processor would put in the gcode file if you told it to do so normaly. Not familar with Aspire
so can't be specific.
Manually - You should check if it's in the code, and if not , then manualy  add the M5 where you want it by editing the Gcode file.
Configuration - check "Turn Off Spindle" option at program end /M30.

You need to correctly set the steps per unit in motor tuning. You can calculate them or can use the axis caibration feature
Settings(Alt 6 ) tab in lower left corner of the screen.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Perfect Lathe threading
« on: April 12, 2015, 07:51:56 AM »
Just a point in time .......... some 4 or 5 years ago,
FWIW  :)

The “future” Advanced Threading requires update per the new threading code and will allow for a slotted wheel with index or an encoder. When using an encoder additional parameters will need to be defined to MACH. If using an encoder, you’ll have to set the number of quads per rev and should work fine if one considers just how many lines can be seen per rev at top speed of threading used and limits their speed to that as a maximum. The Advanced Threading will not be available until after the updated version of Mach is released.

An encoder can be used for threading, and it IS on the books to allow an encoder geared output of the stream, but that may take longer to appear since rework of the code is first required  to get it to a more manageable level of interconnection. As the printer port very slowly goes away, it becomes a question of what the new hardware guru's can put in their firmware with application support from ArtSoft's side.

I suspect Electronic gearing is now possible, but will require a defined development procedure similar to what we went through to fix threading.

Mach4 General Discussion / Re: Need terminology help
« on: April 09, 2015, 08:55:52 PM »
jaustin,

Referenced ( machine reference point )/ Home / Machine Zero are typical names used to say that the user has defined to the controller ( Mach3 ) where 0,0,0 is. Until the machine is referenced the controller keeps track of movement via Machine Coordinates based on the controllers 0,0,0, but, once the machine is Referenced / a home location defined manualy, via switches or whatever........then the Home postition becomes 0,0,0.

The next item ........where is the Work / material / Part Zero ( Datum)?
That also must be defined to the Controller and the distance from Home to the Part would be a Work Offset, namely G54,G55, G........ G255 which is always the distance from Home to the Part datum and G54 is the default Work Offset
on startup.

So you could have numerous work pieces all with their owne datums.

The Datum point is specific location on the work piece by which the Gcode program is based.

Just some basics and hopefully will get you on track to additional reading about CNC as all this actually relates to how
someone is going to setup and machine a job.

General Mach Discussion / Re: pulley ratio ,feedrate and motor tuning
« on: April 06, 2015, 11:20:15 PM »
Greater than 1/10 microsteps is somewhat of a waste. SO would say 1/8 should be fine. Microstepping provides for smoother stepping but is drive dependant. As the steps increase you get get better resolution but just assume that you will actualy have that resolution, manny times unlikely. You start by finding where you start to skip skips at some velocity, then say, decrease velocity by 30%. Then increase acceleration and see what happens and again reduce when it starts to skip.

It's not exhausting, just need to do it in an orderly fashion.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Feeds and Speeds Milling Aluminium

Link to info on speeds and feeds. Should cover most anything your going to do.
There are programs that can calculate, but simple look at a chart gets one in the ballpark quickly.
