Russ,
I didn't test it, and looks like a winner.
If Stephan adds the metric or imperial into the settings page  that would be great.
I would want any input and output to be in imperial units if that is was I set the program to.
I did something similar in my screen set for basic calc's when using the Threading Wizard.

Yep we will be at the show and will give a yell before then.

stephanbrunker,
Think I answered your questions. Good going but keep going...... :)

Be nice if it was also for imperial units. Some just don't use Metric.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Spindle index slot dimension question..

A CD comes in handy to make the disc. Carpet tape the cd to a  face plate and bore to suite. Paint black, the black spray paint for the grill has uses other than for the grill.

Just a time saver,

FAQs / Re: Machine coordinates by start from mach3 (mill) always at zero?
« on: December 30, 2015, 07:01:07 AM »
Burgy,

You need to understand some basics.

When Mach3 starts up it has NO idea where in 3d space it is at UNLESS you tell it otherwise
it ASSUMES it is at Zero.

Mach keeps track of axis movement from the moment it starts up using machine coordinates (MC).
As Terry said, Mach ( the controller ) assumes zero values for MC's. The controller is blind, and can't see the actual machine physical location of MC's=0 on startup. It also can't read the operators mind on where they want zero to be. The user must define the physical location to the controller.

Thus the user either accepts the start up location or defines a MC=0 location to the controller.
When the operator moves to some desired location on the machine where they want MC's=0 to be they tell the controller where that spot is. When the controller is informed of the physical location the operator
wants it is said that the machine has been referenced. The controller started with an arbitary MC=0
and when an actual loctaion is defined the machine is said to be referenced / homed.

To help the controller see and know where the axis locations are physicaly located the user switches
can be used to automate the above on start up.

Note that Work Coordinates( WC )are not MC's. WC is associated with the physical location of the part
as related to Home.

Specific Gcodes can be use to return to home or MC's.IE; G53 is used to move in Machine coordinates.

Read the Mach Manual...............

Show"N"Tell ( Your Machines) / Re: I messed up with my new bench: EMF
« on: December 27, 2015, 07:35:48 AM »
EMF can be tricky to resolve "if that is truly the culprit", but in general, the trick is to find the cause, reduce / contain / eliminate it.
I would suggest simply  boxing the pc & the complete  controller which can be simply a cardboard box lined with Al foil. No need to take things all
apart and then try.

One can "sniff" to find the culprit using a small battery operated radio and just scanning around using the antenna as the noise will create
interference on the radio when near the field. DO NOT actually touch  anything with the antenna ( place some electrical tape over the end of the antenna).

Above is  about as simple as I could explain things and better understanding of EMF  would be a book.

If you truly had no noise  problem before then effectively duplicate what you had before on the new cabinet!

General Mach Discussion / Re: G76 Lathe Theading Problem
« on: December 25, 2015, 07:42:48 PM »
Can't help you if you don't want to do as requested since
I will need to dupicate what you are doing asking some simple
questions based on eliminating posibilities to begin with.

G96 is constant surface speed, G46 sets the max speed when in G96,
and G97 turns CSS off ( from my notes / not in the manual, and I
don't use them ).

If you did read the Threading on the Lathe Manual, page 4,
How It Works, then would understand a little why I request using the
generic screen set. There may be problems when using CSS as it may
be fighting the threading which is reading true time rpm value and adjusting the next pass based on the monitored rpm during the threading.
If it does not see the index then the treading cycle won't start. It waites for  an index and changes from G94 to G95.

Just something easy to do using the calibrate feature:.

1. Calibrate movement  of one of the racks. Set the steps per unit based on that.
2. Now move the gantry to the other rack. Calibrate that rack for the same travel .
The steps per unit and distance should be the same as in 1.
3. Now move midway in rack / step 1. and use calibrate across the spit between the two racks.

Move in one direct and take out the backlash.

Now reverse the direction  of movement opposite of what you did above and do the same.

------------------------
Make note of the each step. You will find any difference between one rack and the other, across the joint line,
and opposite direction. Key here is to be able to measure the travel distance accurately.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Milling and drilling in 2 steps?
« on: December 25, 2015, 09:47:48 AM »
I have used super glue to hold SMALL stuff when engraving. Just depends on what your doing.  For small holes / very light high speed
end milling should work. Best to test and see  for what you are doing. Used carpet tape also, PITA to get off sometimes.

General Mach Discussion / Re: G76 Lathe Theading Problem

jamie,

First a number of comments:
- You are using version 66, suggest you try 62. I am not sure if there are problems with 66.
- You are using a screen set that i am not familar with.
So, to make things simple suggest you use the generic lathe screen so we can be on common ground.
- Set your spindle speed manualy for threading and not automaticaly.
  So reconfigure Mach.
- When you use the Simple threading wizard click the "calc number of
passes" to see if your vel and accel is ok.
- G30 X value Z value, NOT U or w
  G48 - dosen't exist
  G97 -   "       "
You need to look at Gcode definitions in the Lathe Manual for Mach.
Two replies were posted informing you about the commands.

- Check that your index is working. You should should see the mode go
from G94 to G95 when threading. The rpm should be stable within +- 1
rpm as shown in the DRO when running. If you rotate the spindle by hand you will see the index turn on and off in diagnostics.

All of the above will bring you back to a basic configuration and eliminate spome things that could have an affect and simplify us trying to finding out what is going on.
