General Mach Discussion / LATHE TOOL TABLE
« on: May 14, 2009, 06:05:13 PM »
Just a few lathe tool table questions.

1. Any reason why you should not use tool #0 as the "master tool " when setting up a tool table for the lathe?

2. The T word   Txxyy    the xx is the tool number, so i assume that the if yy was 10 it means the offsets for tool #10
will be used to for tool # xx. Correct?

Here's a example on setting up  a machine for homing when you don't have limit switches.
Just remember that this is "soft" and not "hard" ( as if you actually had switches).

Here is a sine plate that was made from precision ground stock.
The top table is 6" wide x 8" long ( nice size ). I picked up all the pieces from someone at the
York Model Show . All I had to do was drill and tap some 60 holes, do some milling and
turning work, and assemble and allign it. Now I know why they cost so much!

This piece will be used for doing light milling work on models.
The table rotates under .001" across the face at any angle (which supprised me)
based on allignment of the front plate edges to the milling table. It lays flat within
.0005". Center to center of the rolls are 5.001" and an angle setting is within 20 seconds or so.
You don't use these too often but surely come in handy when you  need it.
It's no Suburban but beats two of the cheap tilt tables I have by a mile.
Not bad for $25 and a 12 hours worth of work. Guess I'll add it to the other 700# of stuff
holding down the floor!  ;)

General Mach Discussion / BACKLASH PROBLEM MACHV3.042.020
« on: March 14, 2009, 09:53:23 AM »
Is there a known problem or has anybody else experienced backlash problems with MACH R3.042.020
current lockdown version?

In trying to help two guys out with their backlash on their lathes and here is the common problem.
All jogging and backlash is working fine, then after some time, and "all of a sudden", The backlash seems not
to be implemented on direction change, during a jog the Z axis will ramp up to speed and then ramp down say over
a long travel distance, say 3" , come to stop, pause, then a short burst ( think it now implements the backlash).
It will do this constantly once it starts this behavior. The only way to stop it is to set the Shuttle Accel to "0"
and all seems to work well. Now if you go out of MACH and come back in and again reset Shuttle Accel to some
more appropriate value  , back comes the problem. In one case thought it was gone and it did this wierd axis
change while durng threading, of course the piece was ruined.
I need to  try and narrow it down more, but anything that i could think just didn't seem to work.

Any experience on this one or thoughts on the matter?

Members Docs / COPYCAT MANUAL

Here is CopyCat V1.1 Manual Rev 0
This revision makes the manual complete in terms of appendixes.
There will be revisions over time, but for now,  I believe it has more than
enough to help you use CopyCat.

Newfangled Solutions Mach3 Wizards / COPYCAT - "KOOL"
« on: January 31, 2009, 07:00:35 PM »
Ron,
I finaly got some time to try out Copycat which you breifly went over at Cabin Fever.
It's "KOOL".
How do you get the jog shuttle to appear? Does it work?

Using manual jogging and the most sophisticated of pointing devises ( a tootpick and the a $2.00 laser with tin foil to get the dot )
you end up with something pretty kool as shown by the attachments.

It's rather quick once if you get the hang of it.

« on: January 31, 2009, 01:41:42 PM »
The attached Wizard List provides a listing and a picture for the Mach 3 mill wizards.
I printed it for reference use as it allows quick view of the differences without opening Mach and each wizard.
