Works in progress / THE LATHE PROJECT-2011 - WIZARDS SCREENS ONLY
« on: January 09, 2011, 03:27:08 PM »
This thread is about how the wizards can be interfaced into the new lathe screen.
Usualy done by clicking the Wizards tab. In Phils lathe screen  a button was added to invoke the flyout.
New wizards are being done, addtional wizards exist that can be added to the screen,
in few cases some may duplicate efforts done by others,....etc.

I created this thread for general discussion on the wizards as a whole and not about in depth specifcs on the individual wizards.
See the references below for whats going on or was posted in the past. Hopefully puts wizards into perspective.

WIZARD OVERVIEW
The attached pics show most available wizards ( ones i have or found ) and additional screens will need
to be provided or the current one modified.

Just a comment on the Rich / modified pic.......Each of these wizards have been modified to work in diameter and radius
mode and will post comment information along with the code. There are some new wizards also, but a few are different
or improved such as the taper ones which  provide additional choices. They are numbered for a reason.
A friend did the changes...not me...my changes would never work!  No, I have not tested them.

I am sure that there are other wizards out there which can be added, developed or were missed in my searching.

Works in progress / THE LATHE PROJECT-2011 - THREADING WIZARD ONLY
« on: January 08, 2011, 11:21:47 PM »
This thread is strictly limited to threading wizards to be reused / combined / created ...whatever .....for a new lathe screen .
I desire not to have the threading ones mixed with other wizard updates going on.
This post will be modified to include info on the wizards and provide for discussion prior to including them into the lathe screen.

A user wrote me and asked what he could make such that he could draw to paper the gcode for an image using his mill.

Here  are pictures of my pen holder that I use.
A holding plate to mount the holder to the mill was made and an extended handle was added for fine manual adjustment of the pen to the paper.
The ball point pen was modified using the original parts. Just reversed the pen in the holder and changed how it was held in the pen body.
There is a 1/4" of spring travel so it's very easy to just bring the quill down and then manualy adjust the pen tip into the paper some .005" to .010" or so. Works great and frankly travels quite accurately. You don't have to worry about Z backlash but make sure you allow a proper Z change in the gcode to lift the pen tip away from the paper.
BTW, purchase a few extra pen refills or pens. Not fancy, but for a couple of buck's, it does the trick.  ;)

Not a lot of time was spent on it, is basic,  but it's better than what currently exists.
