General Mach Discussion / Re: Has anyone used Viper Servo drivers?
« on: June 05, 2009, 05:52:47 PM »
Yup!  The 80VDC limit would be the first thing I would like changed in future servo upgrades from gecko.  I'm using the G320's on a slaved axis and the motors are 1000rpm/60Vdc-max 3000rpm, so basically the motors are 180VDC.    They work well with rack and pinion,  but fault if I try to move the gantry more than 323ipms(a little more at nightdue to slightly higher line votage).   Hey I got the motors with gear reductions cheap and experimented if they would work at all.   They did and the machine still does move fast enough...for now....but the gantry could easily handle more speed.
had I spent more for motors/gear reductions in the ideal range, I would be out in the doghouse.   :o

Those Vipers!....I might negotiate with the better half for those.....just for the two controlling the gantry motors..... ;)

The toroid transformer I use is huge and would accept extra turns without any problems....In fact, I took off windings to accomodate the 80VDC limit of the Gecko servo drives.

...included a dated(2006) pic for reference........just itching for those Vipers with more voltage.

Yes, I would share the macros and other stuff, but it would not be useful unless you had the same setup as I have.

Hi simpson36,
I think your setup is great!  I'm intermiittantly building a similar system also using a cheap spindexer...
I've never actually written macros on my own, but have modified a few.....
Seeing your macros and learning how you integrated your moves, axis swaps, and homing would be highly benficial ..... I think..
I've often only dreamed/ponderd of doing just what you have done....
So, if you wouldn't mind, I like to see your macros....

Thanks,

Or, Hood, maybe you could repost the picture of your probe here?

General Mach Discussion / Re: Mach3.041 FRO Slider problem

duh!!  double!

I made the slider longer but didn't change the width.........

duh!!!again..... :-[

thanks for making it obvious for me!!

John (bloy)

.....just an added side note....just got back from an 85 mile round trip to retrieve a HON series 600 5 drawer lateral file cab.
Although the cost per mile was about 30 cents (total about 25 bucks) the virtually new cab was gotten for $50 ....still a good buy I'd say.   :)  Besides, I picked up some other longer items needed for plumbing.   Well, is that too much for a general storage cabinet???

Thanks Brett,
I'd say yes, but I've got a few mods (buttons, DROs, LEDS, etc.) to my screens already set in for my usage.
I've tried altering the size and position of the slider thinking if I made it longer the green would not rise up to the % digits.  This worked in keeping the green from approaching the 100% digits (if I recalll properly) but the digits were still consistantly cut off at the bottom as in picture two above.

The DRO (from my limited knowledge) doesn't seem to be able to be altered separately from the entire slider unit.

It almost seems like the slider unit itself is created with this flaw.   I might look into flash and see if I could create a new one or manipulate the existing unit.

Maybe if you just posted the flash slider that you use..... Then I could insert it and see if the problem is resolved.
If not resolved then I can look further into my screens to pinpoint the problem.

Many thanks,
John Meissner  (Bloy)

General Mach Discussion / Mach3.041 FRO Slider problem
« on: July 22, 2008, 10:01:56 AM »
Hi ALL,
I was wondering if this is normal for all instllations of Mach3.041.
If you look at the pictures, the digits above the slider are cut off on their bottom half.....whether at 100% or any increment less than.   I've tried to correct this with screen4 but have not been able to make it appear as Brett's screenshot under the "implementing 3 MPGs thread"  http://www.machsupport.com/forum/index.php/topic,7625.0.html .
This problem here may seem trivial, but it just bugs me a little too much to ignore... ???

Does someone know how to fix or replace the slider?    Is this just something in my computer?

Thanks ,
John M  (Bloy)

General Mach Discussion / Re: homing slaved motors
« on: February 08, 2007, 08:47:47 PM »
X.Z and A all move to home position with X and Z backing off .25" as they are supposed to.  A is staying at home as it is supposed to.  Y and B are slaved together Y moves toward home switch but B doesn't move.   Slaved motors work fine during normal operations.  Y and B should move to home position until Y reaches switch and then both stop.

If I read this correctly, you have only one homing switch for Y?   In that case, you need to have a homing switch for both Y AND B.
then to syncronize them to keep the two sides in line, move one or the other switch until they make your gantry square.

I hope this is what you are takling about....

just use the url:  http://www.cncsimulator.com   and go from there to downloads.  you will see much more than the main program.
