Hi Russ,

Mach4 is still ahead for me.   For my purposes, Mach3 does all that is required.  A lot of events not related to CNC have affected me over the last decade, but I still inquire often.

Thanks,
John Meissner (Bloy)

Hood !

I'm not worrying, but I am a bit curious about what the fifth LED is indicating by maintaining a lit state.

I've not done any in-depth search to relearn what the diagnostics page tells me in it's entirety, so, if you happen to know off-hand......

By the way, just wanted to mention how your CNC system on that huge green giant you restored has me waiting for your next image or video of almost every time you hit the start button or work around.  O

That is such a cool machine!!  And you saved/improved it.

Hi Russ and Dave,

Just curious here....

I was wondering how this situation turned out.  Were the parts able to be repaired or replaced?

Was the problem solved?   If so, I'd like to know the story's conclusion.   ;)

Thanks,

John Meissner

Hey Dave,
 I wanted to add...

The Makita router motor I'm using in my machine has a proprietary thread on its shaft that its collet holder attaches to.  So I was using a 1/2" shafted rapid changer which caused the extreme extension.    I bought another collet holder for the Makita as a pattern to make an adapter to allow the rapid changer to screw on right close to the motor shaft.  its an odd thread... I couldn't get Makita to reveal the thread size, but thought maybe I could trial and error the thread.  At least I knew what it was close to.  I basically shelved that and am looking for a Porter Cable router.   Or better yet, a VFD and 3phase motor/spindle.  Lots of items on a wish list here.   :-\

Hi Dave,
Thanks for the comment~

As to the rapid changer, I used it now and then.  Since my router (makita) has variable speed, I can keep the speed down.  It needed to be played with when locking it in the motor collet, but once finding the sweet spot, it is well balanced. It just sticks out so far and feed rates have to be kept low as it loses its accuracy with too much side loading.
More collets are needed for it but the system supplier support kinda dwindled and the prices went high.

I still intend to try my luck at turning collets on my lathe.  I expect a lot of scrap metal after that..  ;D

Hmmm. The rapid changer is good for multiple tool changes... in fact I was going to make one of those tool changer racks that sitt along a side of the router.....just never got too it.

I lost my edit abilities in the last post attempting to embed the video so I will repost here with the information from Hood on how to do so.

Thank you LOADS, Hood!

Where would we be without you.

I didn't mean to bring such attention to my first video... I can't get used to my own voice!
