General Mach Discussion / Re: Mach and External Motion control devices

Does anyone know if the Galil plugin will work with the Galil 2180 ethernet card.  I ask because it is the older version.

Thanks,

Bill

Brian,

With the rigid tapping, could it be done with a galil and a vector control frequency drive and motor?  You don't need a servo motor do you?

I am thinking about the 10/100Base-T Ethernet and the PCI :)

Brian,

For Mach, will there be a difference between the pci and the ethernet Galil controllers?   I believe in general the difference is that the pci has faster communication and can handle interrupts faster.

Thanks,

Bill

That thing looks great if it works. Too bad it doesn't have one more axis!

Chad

Chad,  Why would you want more than 4 axes for linear or 2 for circular?  This is not rhetorical,  I am still on the steep part of the learning curve :)

Thanks,

Bill

Thanks.

I am new to Mach 3 and cnc for that matter and am trying to get a feel for the accuracy I could expect after retrofitting an older mill or vmc.  Can you 'map' the different axes to get good accuracy and precision from a machine with a little wear?  What kind of accuracy could I expect?

Thanks.
