Tangent Corner / How to identify servo motor
« on: January 15, 2011, 03:40:29 PM »
Hi,

Sometime, I surf on Ebay and see some very  nice servo motor but I don't know nothing about servo.

How could I find out to identify those that could work with cnc setup.

I would like to make some test with servo controller, maybe smooth stepper

I know as I read some earlier post that they should accept step and direction but that's all I know so far.

Can servo motor be identify by the number of wire they have?

What kind of encoder or resolver work best, best resolution...

Thanks for any input

Jeff

Have paste some links from ebay to show you some exemples.

Tangent Corner / Want to know what you think about this cnc
« on: December 27, 2010, 04:34:09 AM »
Hi, for some time I want to buy a small VMC.

Just found from this company http://www.majesticmachinery.com/vmachining
a small VMC mill.

This is the BobMIll model but with ATC, servo motor full enclosure is available.

This is the big brother of the MK2 model, it's the MK3

BT30 spindle with 5 HP motor up to 6000 RPM but a more powerful spindle is also available.

Linear axis for X, Y and Z.

Coolant pump.

Rigid Tapping is an option

22 3/4 of travel for X axis at 750 IPM rapid

Just included the PDF for all the specs.

I know that this is not a Mach3 controlled machine, that's why I post it in this section

Just would like to know what you think about this machine.

Any owner of the MK2 series, please tell me about your experience.

Please, I want to have your tough about it.

Thanks a lot, Jeff

General Mach Discussion / Which Mach3 version is best, still have 2.63
« on: November 27, 2010, 05:26:56 PM »
Hi, I still work with the older version 2.63 of Mach3.

Every time I wanted to download a new version, someone pointed some bugs so I decided to wait a bit.

Now I would like to install new version but just wonder which one should be best for me.

Running a CNC router.

I have two hard drive on the computer running Mach3, can I install the new version on D drive and still keep the old version on the C drive,

or this could cause some driver problem.

Thanks for any input. Jeff

General Mach Discussion / 0.8Kw water spindle running with 2.2Kw VFD
« on: November 26, 2010, 03:10:27 PM »
Hi,

Is there any problem running a 0.8Kw water cooled spindle with a 2.2Kw VFD.

Just ordered a 0.8Kw water cooled spindle and I have a spare 2.2Kw VFD both bought from love-happyshopping on Ebay.

I have put a picture of the VFD in case.

Thanks for your time, Jeff

General Mach Discussion / Multiple monitor setup
« on: November 20, 2010, 05:33:56 PM »
Hi, could it be possible to set up two monitor with Mach3 if of course I change my video card for dual output.

I would like to have one normally set up for mach3 and the other setup with DRO only.

Make a screen with DRO only that would be display on the second monitor (7in monitor).

I would like to display position and TO GO position.

General Mach Discussion / For a new built machine, what would you change
« on: November 09, 2010, 06:13:48 PM »
I you wanted to build a new cnc machine, router or others, what would you change, more about electronics than mechanics.

Present setup and new setup.

Would like to ear what would be the best material, again, mostly electronic.

Like PP vs other controls or any devices.

General Mach Discussion / Possible, 3 spindles with only one VFD ???
« on: November 02, 2010, 03:22:52 PM »
HI,

Could it be possible to have 3 spindles, like 800 water cooled type but use only one VFD.

I have to machine about 6000 plastic boxes for a company and would need 2 to 3 different tools for each model.

Only one spindle would be machining at a time, not 3 at the same time.

Need a way to switch between spindle for each tool.

Would be a lot cheaper than try to get expensive tool changer, this is for a gantry router by the way.

Jeff

PS, I already have a VFD for a 2.2Kw water cooled spindle and I think I would just have to buy a couple of .8Kw spindle and they would work with the VFD

This is a 24 X 36 shop.

This will be for my lathe, My 6X4 Aluminum CNC router and a futur CNC mill and all my woodworking equipments.

Concrete will be poor this week, walls and trusses are due within 2 weeks.

Hope the pictures will upload, had some problems with them.

Will keep updating as soon as work progress.
