PoKeys / RC style pwm
« on: January 26, 2018, 08:49:32 AM »
I am using an RC outboard motor and controller on my engraver spindle and am not having any luck with the pwm signal on my pokeys57cnc.
Can anyone help with settings.
Do I use the Mach3 configuration or poblocks software?

PoKeys / Stuck need some help with accessing pulse engine
« on: January 24, 2018, 06:46:25 PM »
I just installed my new pokeys57cnc board and hooked things up.  I got pretty far, have all axis' jogging but have one issue.
I can find out how to open the dialog to configure the pulse engine,  I go to configure the pokeys plugin but when I click on the pulse engine tab
it only shows me the items for setting the limit switches,  I can't get any further.

I have gotten the bug to start work on an old MicroStar N1 lathe.

It has an old Fanuc system 5 controls on it. (1979 vintage) The spindle motor is a 7.33 hp dc drive.  It is big at least 18" long about 8" diameter.
I haven't dug into the servos yet to see exactly what I've got, they are DC but that is all I am sure of.

Do you think I should try to get the existing spindle drive to run or replace it with something else? Do you have any ideas on what type of drive to use on it?
What would you use for the servo motors? They are big about 6" diameter 10-12" long. I would guess 3hp or more.

Any documents on this would be nice also, Ha Ha wishful thinking. I have scoured the web and find nothing. Even Fanuc System 5 information is scarce.

Just a couple of cleanup items if possible a moderator would take care of when you get a minute.

Has any had much luck using a PWM signal to run an ESC controller for a RC plane outrunner motor as a spindle.
I am trying to do this but having some difficulties.
The PWM is a little different for the ESC controller.

This is a description of how they work.
DC ESCs in the broader sense are PWM controllers for electric motors. The ESC generally accepts a nominal 50 Hz PWM servo input signal whose pulse width varies from 1 ms to 2 ms. When supplied with a 1 ms width pulse at 50 Hz, the ESC responds by turning off the DC motor attached to its output. A 1.5 ms pulse-width input signal results in a 50% duty cycle output signal that drives the motor at approximately half-speed. When presented with 2.0 ms input signal, the motor runs at full speed due to the 100% duty cycle (on constantly) output.

I have had some success by doing an odd ball start sequence where I start the spindle and call for 50 rpm which gives me a 1ms pulse width, then a pause to allow the ESC to initialize, then I call for 100 rpm (scale of speed is 1000 rpm) and it will run 2ms pulse for full speed on the motor.

I know I used to be able to edit my old posts in the bargain basement but either I forgot how or I don't have permissions.
I believe there used to be an edit option next to the reply option.

any help?

I haven't done any brains yet but would like to try to do one.
I need to do an estop or reset based on a timer.
If I haven't hit the cycle start in 5 minutes I would like to shutdown the machine using the estop or reset button.

Can anyone give me a little help?
I don't know where to start?

Show"N"Tell ( Your Machines) / 13x40 lathe conversion
« on: May 14, 2009, 03:47:42 PM »
Just thought I would share my lathe conversion in progress.
It is a harbor freight 13 x 40.
I am going to use a servo on the Z axis and a 1200oz stepper on the X.

I did this with Mach3,  the file was generated by Vcarve from a grayscale bitmap.
it is 18 x 24"  took 3.5 hours to cut from pink foam.

2 light coats of plaster and then airbrush painted.

I have a friend that has a Tormach mill and running version 2.4,  he wants to upgrade so he can use the machining camera but Tormach is not much help.

Has anyone upgraded to 2.63?

Do you have a configuration file I can get for him?
