General Mach Discussion / Re: motors disengaging
« on: July 22, 2008, 02:56:46 PM »
It mostly happens on z however it also happens when other single or multiple axis are working. That is the only xml file i found.I purchased this mill already retrofitted. Is there another xml file?Did you notice any problems? The drives fault more when i try to speed up the velocity however these settings of 10 ipm are extremelly low.

The drives default and stop communication with motors untill i manually reset them. The dros in mach still work.I will attach my xml file

Edit: Removed file, Incorrect files, Chip

General Mach Discussion / motors disengaging
« on: July 22, 2008, 07:30:32 AM »
Running into problems with the motors disengaging.I have the 3 axis retrokit from lowcostretrofitcnc.com.I have servo motors with gecko drives.Sometimes they will stop multiple times during a cut and sometimes i can do the same cut with no problems.I can simulate the problem most of the time dropping z and trying to lift it up all the way.Sometimes it happens when all axises are turning.I have spoken with gecko. They said it sounded like loose wires.During a program i would do the wiggle test to all wires.Nothing happened. The highest i can adjust my z motor is 10 ipm and other axises around 20.I am told i can get a lot more out of them.Even set at these low settings it still disengages the drives.I spent the day checking the wiring, checked amps on motors when running to see if they built up high enough to see if this was the problem. It stabilized at 6-7 amps on z lift and the others were similar the default is 12-14.I checked common voltage on drive, error voltage, armature voltage.ultimately the power source voltage through multiple tasks to see if it stayed consistant.Which it did.Could it be the XML file?Any advise would great. Thanks

I do have a licensed version. What i meant about saveing spindle speed is that i put in the speed in the lower right corner of the mach screen and tried to enter it in but it would defalt to 0.0000.I set the spindle speed on my mill to 670rpm.I overrode the feed rate down to 6.00 because we were breaking bits.Is this normal to bring the feed rate down this low?How do you know what tool diameter to use? Before the motors stalled they sounded like all of them wanted to engage. My speeds and accelerations are low i don't understand the problem.Chip i will call you later if i dont hear from you.

I loaded the roadrunner program, set up my material.I measured the tool diameter and put it in however it would not save the tool measurement. How important is these two measurements? Then i tried to set spindle speed but again it wouldn't let me save that number. How important is this number?Anyways i finished seeting up and started cutting.Everything went great until around line#1160.Mach was still running but my mill stopped.I had to reset the servo motors, back up the program to line#1150.Everything reversed fine but somehow the depth or the z movement was to high. How do you reset the z height during the program so you don't have to start over? Where did i mess up?????

General Mach Discussion / Re: Matching Dros

Sometimes i feel like i am no further ahead than i was last month. The correct pulses for 1 inch i got was around 20,967.You say just use 20,000 instead of 20,967.When i changed it to 20,000 the axis wouldn't travel a complete inch.I thought the idea was to have mach command the table to move to the exact number.Do i use the 20,967 because i get the complete inch out of it or do i change it to 20,000 like you said???

Thanks Jim and Rich for your responces. What i ended up doing is setting up a dial indicator for each axis. Then i did a G0X1 move.Reset mach dro and dial indicator to 0.Then put in G0X2.If it moved more or less than 1 inch i adjusted the pulses so the dial indicator read 1 inch. However all of my final settings ended up being allot of different numbers-example 20,976037 instead of 20,000.Now in theory if i then put in G0X1 and the axis doesn't fully return to 0 that number would be my backlash.Am i correct??

Thanks for your response.I was setting the steps by inputting G0X1 then zeroing out Dros. Then inputting G0X2 and adjusting to get both to read 1 inch. The Dros are accurate at low numbers but differ at higher ones.
