General Mach Discussion / motors disengaging
« on: July 22, 2008, 07:30:32 AM »
Running into problems with the motors disengaging.I have the 3 axis retrokit from lowcostretrofitcnc.com.I have servo motors with gecko drives.Sometimes they will stop multiple times during a cut and sometimes i can do the same cut with no problems.I can simulate the problem most of the time dropping z and trying to lift it up all the way.Sometimes it happens when all axises are turning.I have spoken with gecko. They said it sounded like loose wires.During a program i would do the wiggle test to all wires.Nothing happened. The highest i can adjust my z motor is 10 ipm and other axises around 20.I am told i can get a lot more out of them.Even set at these low settings it still disengages the drives.I spent the day checking the wiring, checked amps on motors when running to see if they built up high enough to see if this was the problem. It stabilized at 6-7 amps on z lift and the others were similar the default is 12-14.I checked common voltage on drive, error voltage, armature voltage.ultimately the power source voltage through multiple tasks to see if it stayed consistant.Which it did.Could it be the XML file?Any advise would great. Thanks

General Mach Discussion / First cut problems
« on: June 16, 2008, 08:35:27 PM »
I loaded the roadrunner program, set up my material.I measured the tool diameter and put it in however it would not save the tool measurement. How important is these two measurements? Then i tried to set spindle speed but again it wouldn't let me save that number. How important is this number?Anyways i finished seeting up and started cutting.Everything went great until around line#1160.Mach was still running but my mill stopped.I had to reset the servo motors, back up the program to line#1150.Everything reversed fine but somehow the depth or the z movement was to high. How do you reset the z height during the program so you don't have to start over? Where did i mess up?????

General Mach Discussion / Question on homeing
« on: June 11, 2008, 02:44:53 PM »
Is this the correct homing. All these examples are based off standing in front of the machine.X all the way to the right and when moving left will build in the positive number.Y all the way out towards me.When moving towards the machine numbers will build in the positive.Z all the way up.As the knee  drops numbers will build in the??

General Mach Discussion / Motor Tuning

Hood,
You answered a question a while ago about adjusting velocity and acceleration till you skip steps then slightly back off.I am trying to understand what you mean about missing steps and what i should be looking for.

As you can tell i am a first time user of this software.I am stuck at the basics still...Setting up homing limits, calibration, motor tuning.I have tried multiple things that i have read on this site and also other sites.Help?Does anybody know of anybody in the NewHampshire area that could do some one on one training???

General Mach Discussion / How do you measure homeing limits?
« on: May 18, 2008, 07:34:37 PM »
Do you put x in its outer most position then zero out dro. Then move x to the complete opposite end and take the specific inches and put it in the homing? Then do the same to y and z?
