General Mach Discussion / Re: Random z axis movement

I remember Chaoticone's advice to me last time, check the connections on the gecko. seems to have cured it. just posting the question helped me think about it in the right way, ie not in a panic panic panic way.
Thanks for being there guys.

General Mach Discussion / Random z axis movement
« on: July 24, 2009, 05:04:12 AM »
Hi all.
After quite a while of trouble free motoring, today I have random z movement, from the keyboard, and from the Tab controls. (press down get down, press down get down, press down get up
Unfortunately it is halfway into an 8 hour job, but stopped overnight.
The only thing changed recently is a bigger heatsink and fan on the cpu, and more memory, because the long files were causing crashes due to overheat.
Any ideas guys?

Thanks Hood.
Here are the files. When using mach2 I select the profile routerg, which I attach also.
I have had a brief try earlier, and now I can't get any movement, it may be me being a numpty, maybe it's something in the files you can tell me about. Anyway, here they are.
Thanks
Jim

Hi guys. I promised to move to Mach3 and all has gone smoothly, bit by bit. I can move xyz no problem, but I can't start the spindle. I have read and reread, and tried every combination of settings, but no. I guess the info I need is in the mach 2 settings, but I can't spot it.
Any ideas where to look, what to select?

Thanks,
 Jim

Hi Bobo.
I take your point, now I have looked at your pics of your machine. That's nice.
If it was me though, I would give it a wizz round the same file, without the spindle, rather than with the spindle, but cutting air.
The changes you have made are: a different file; a different head; and you have switched of some thc etc.
I would check it isn't something to do with the head first.

Hi Bobo.
I've noticed a lot of problems after a Z- are caused by the z axis itself.
Is your 2 1/4 hp Hitachi Router Spindle loads heavier than the plasma gear?
If you ran the file with the plasma back on and it still didn't work, I guess that would rule out mechanical problems.

General Mach Discussion / Where did my Z axis control go?

Hi guys.
Sorry it's in Mach 2 and I promise to upgrade fast, but can I just get 2 running again?
-Hard disc crash. Backup failed to install this time, but license ok and .xml ok, so all is up and running on new disc ,from a different copy of Mach 2, motors running sweet, x and y responding correctly.. but previously on my 'manual' screen I had an x and y 'trackball' and a z 'trackball' control. Now It's just the x and y.
I guess there's a file I need to copy over, but I can't see which one.

Who can remember that far back?

Thanks in advance
