The input pins cannot be toggled and they are allways "high" (+5 volts). How can you change input pins so they are allway low (0 volts)Help a noob out

Josh

As has been said above the inputs on the printer port are at 5v or "high" when at rest (nothing connected)

So you can switch them by connecting the pin to 0v or ground.  This will bring the pin low.

Or if you want to switch them by connecting to 5v then you must first make them low when at rest.

This is done by connecting a "pulldown" resistor between the pin and 0v

The value of this resistor will depend on whether you are using a BOB or direct connection to the LPT.

Randy Ray  that will work fine.

I have two machines hooked up to one computer.  Each with their own printer port.  No plugging and unplugging.

Simply start the profile for whichever machine I want to use.

You just make a shortcut for each machine and it will start Mach with the appropriate profile.

G'day Josh

Resizing the Mach 1024 screen will work as far as seeing the whole screen at 800 x 600 but it is next to useless on a touch screen.

Buttons are so small that "touching" them will just be an exercise in frustration.  You will give up and only use the mouse and keyboard.

I found the only real option is to make a new screen from scratch.  It needs large buttons and I prefer bright colours.

I'll post the front page of my screen just to give you an idea of what I mean.

SF it sounds like you have not set up the probe input in "Ports and Pins"

It should look like in the picture.  With relevant port and pin number,

To be fair,  Tom was using the example of a spot laser just to make the concept clear.

Thanks for taking the time Tom.

SF  forget about the script, DRO, button etc for now.

What you need to make happen is touching the plate to tool makes the "Digitize" LED come on on the diagnostics page.

When that is happening the rest will fall into place easily.

You've got a fair discrepancy between the last line of code and the DROs    :o

That is because you do not have a nice round number in steps per unit.

For instance I have 400 steps per mm on the Z axis but have 106.158964 steps per mm on X and Y

Mach calculates the position to ten decimal places even though it may only show three or four on the DRO

Yes that would be a quite common way of doing it.
