General Mach Discussion / Re: USING DIFFERENT STEPS PER UNIT
« on: August 30, 2009, 08:17:21 PM »

mixing metric and imperial screws may give you problems as you can only have one set of native units ;)

Makes no difference. I believe Mach calculates all numbers to ten decimal places.   MMs or Inches,  they are measurement units.  To Mach they are just numbers.

Whether Screws happen to metric pitch or imperial just set native units to what ever you would normally work with.

How about posting some screenshots?

Web site does not give much to go by.  :)

EDIT:  Hey I take that back.  ;D  Download the PDF.  It has plenty of screenshots.

Well I must apologise.  :-[

"Clears the flash memory"    I guess I did not understand what that meant.

I was under the impression that the plugin in Mach reset the flash memory every time Mach booted up.

Greg

EDIT:  I reread Jeff's post number ten where he explained that.  First reading I was just seeing talk of noise elimination discussion and skipped over that bit.  Sorry.

OK I take it that no one knows what the reset on the SS does or how to implement it.   ;D

The reset is for forcing the flash memory to clear.

OK so why does it not work for me?   I must not only restart Mach but also disconnect/reconnect the SS.

Is that not what the reset on the SS is for?  Or is it some other purpose?

How many computer peripherals do you have that you can just reset on-the-fly?  Any USB device will require a re-connect to re-boot it....

Yes I hear what you are saying Ray.  But what is the reset on the SS for?

I have wondered about this also.  When communication is lost to SS a disconnect and restart is required.

The SS does have connectors on board for a reset switch, but as far as I can tell they have no effect.

Unplugging the USB cable is the only thing that works for me to reset the SS.  That is why it is still on the shelf.

I am using a 45CSX  Foxconn board,  XP and 2gig of ram.  Mach3 via LPT.

Only running a couple of months but so far it is going sweet.

Seems really odd that it apparently worked for some users.

Did we get a number of reports that it worked fine?

General Mach Discussion / Re: 4th axis
« on: August 06, 2009, 09:50:52 PM »
I ran your code.  5ipm is kinda slow anyway but I am guessing that was intentional.

Play around with the "Rotation Diameters" on the settings page (which I think should read "Rotation Radius")

Mach tries to adjust feedrates for different Z DRO readings.

Every time I think I have a good grasp of what it does there, something comes up to say I have not.  :D

What I think it does, is take the Z DRO value and add it to the Diameter (radius) setting and adjust the A axis feed rate to suit that total.

So if you have Z zero at the centre of rotation then set the "Rotation Diameter" to near zero.  (not zero or it will not work)

And if your Z zero is at the cutting radius then set that as the "Rotation Diameter"

I am very ready to be set straight if this interpretation is incorrect.  :D
