We REALLY DO need a Mach4 version of the MachTool Box. Things get lost posting stuff every where else.

Oh boy!, This is not supported by any stretch of the imagination...................................... but I do not see why you could not have 2 drives and two motors for the backlash comp by sharing the step and direction signals to 2 drives. Maybe even drive 2 motors from the same drive. I think I would go with a single motor, some belts and pulleys and 2 gears myself since the backlash comp would not be electrical preload. The separate pinions would still have to be separated or opposing mechanically (spring, shock, spacer etc).  However, the best solution would be to use precision parts with precision placement, set up correctly to eliminate backlash. I do think any of the three options above would work (each with benefits and drawbacks) but they are elaborate workarounds for inferior components IMO.

Hello Austin, have you read this topic? http://www.machsupport.com/forum/index.php/topic,25616.0.html  If not, hopefully it will help. Noise can be a real pain to deal with. It sounds like you have a ground loop or misplaced wire to me. You may need to float some grounds. Eliminate everything you can and get one thing working well and tested then add another. Get your motion working nice then add the home/limits and retest. Then add the spindle control and retest etc. You have to eat an elephant one bite at the time. If you do not have electrical prints you are at a severe disadvantage IMO.

This is not clear to me but if they are not insulated on top of the copper tape you now have antennas running all around (the opposite of what you want). When using shielded cable I use heat shrink on the ends for that extra little bit of insurance if that tells you anything.
