General Mach Discussion / Re: NPN Proxy switch help

Hey Graham,
Yes, black is the signal wire on this prox. I thought it was. We use a lot of Efectors. Good, one little thing out of the way. :)

Hey Graham,
It depends on your breakout board. The prox. is going to send a signal at the voltage it is powered (24V). You do not want to send that to the PC. What kind of breakout board do you have? Any manuals?

I will try to look that part# up tonight and get the pinout.

I also meant to tell you that most 24V DC switches will operate on 8V DC and you can get a cheap power supply that has 5V DC and 12V DC. I think I gave about $20.00 for mine.

Hello Graham,
Â   No, you need to separate the voltages. My board has optoisolated inputs and outputs.
Here is how Mr. Duncan of CNC4PC explains it.
An optoisolator is an integrated circuit that transmits the signal through an encapsulated LED and
phototransistor. When the signal is on, the LED lights up, the phototransistor captures it and
relays the signal. In that way, your computer’s electronics are completely isolated from your
circuitry. The signals are transmitted through light and not through physical connections. In
this way, a power surge has no way of reaching your computer.

black and brown are power and blue is signal.

I've never seen a 24V prox. that the signal is blue. I do not know if this is a set in stone standard or not. I have replaced a blue million switches, different manufacturers, styles, etc. The signal has been black on all of these. Blue=neg. brown=pos. black=signal.

Hope this helps. ;D

General Mach Discussion / Re: What file extension should I use for Mach3

Hello Bjoakland,
Â    I use Artcam as well. Old Version 5.5. On Pro 8, can you highlight the vectors and Arcfit? (I think in your version it does this by default.) If so, try that and see if it helps. Hood is dead on about CV mode. I suspect this is your problem. You might want to check your CV mode settings also.

Hope this helps. ;D

I don't know who has the best prices or if the last one even carries them. I hope these help though. ;D

Hello Bradford,
Â   I hope this helps, I converted a manual mill to a three axis cnc using steppers. (3 1780 oz. in.) If your machine is sound mechanically, your motors work, limits switches are working, etc. it can be done for very little expense. I spent about $700.00 US on the components you will need. Power supply, drives, (3 Gecko 201s) breakout board, cable, 5v, 12v, brick power supply. Assuming you have a PC, Mach, and some wire allready. You may not even need the power supplies if the machine has one you can use. :)
