I think what Craig was referring to was putting a resistor on the input signal. Maybe a 10K ohm. That will make it so it requires more current for the signal to change state.

I tested sending an email one time and had it all working good. I don't remember much about it but did save a script. Here it is.

Code: [Select]
--Button Script
email('Hello from a Mach4 machine') --This calls the email function and passes it a message.

---------------------------------------------------------------
-- Email added 8-30-2016
---------------------------------------------------------------
--Helpful link http://w3.impa.br/~diego/software/luasocket/smtp.html
function email(message)
    package.path = package.path .. ';./Modules/?.lua;'
    package.cpath = package.cpath .. ';./Modules/?.dll;'

    -- load the smtp support
    local smtp = require('/socket.smtp')
from = '<fromname@hostname.net>' --email address of sender

    rcpt = {
        '<toname1@hostname.net>', --email address of recipient
'<toname2@hostname.net>', --email address of carbon copied recipient
'<toname3@hostname.net>' --email address of blind carbon copied recipient. They will be blind because we will not list them in the header
    }

    mesgt = {
        headers = {
            from = 'From Name <fromname@hostname.net>', --name and email address of sender. Example: 'John Doe <originaljdoe@anyhost.net>'
            to = 'To Name <toname1@hostname.net>', --name and email address of recipient
cc = 'To Name <toname2@hostname.net>', --name and email address of someone being carbon copied
subject = 'Mail from a Mach4 machine' --email subject
        },
        body = tostring(message)
    }

    r, e = smtp.send{
        from = from,
        rcpt = rcpt,
        source = smtp.message(mesgt),
        server = 'mail.myhost.net', --this is the address or IP of the mail server used to send this email. smtp.gmail.com is one example
        password = 'MailServerPassword', --this is the password you use to access the mail server you are sending from
        user = 'myname@myhost.net' --this is the user name you use to access the mail server you are sending from
    }
    if (r == 1) then --Message was sent successfully
       wx.wxMessageBox('Message was sent successfully.')
    else --There was an error
        wx.wxMessageBox('!!!ERROR!!!\n\n' .. tostring(e))
    end
end

AI .... Robots ! ? ? ? ::)

Bingo!

Yup RC, that is it. Go to an airport, mall, restaurant or any where there are more than a few people and see how many are already slaves of their phones, tablets or other smart device. While learning to write in cursive is removed from most school curriculum computers can convey their message in many languages and in many styles for each of those languages, even cursive. And that is just so we (humans) can understand it. Its certainly not for the benefit of the machines. Everyone of them understand 1s and 0s very well. In fact the majority of the work they do is to enable us to understand what they are doing. They could be many times more efficient if not for taking the time to do the things necessary for us to believe we are still the top of the food chain. How many jobs have already been replaced with robots? How many of the jobs that are left couldn't be replaced with robots? Very few. While we laugh at our simple mistakes (such as misplaced commas) and blame it on the fact that "we are only human" robots are eating our lunch and proving that no truer words have ever been spoken.

Now I have to decide to spend the rest of my day coding or perfecting my spear making skills.  ;D

Would this work?

Motor control
Use a relay or relays to swap rotation direction. It would be wired so that when the relay/s are off it rotates in the default direction (no output required). To change direction you fire a single output (which if I'm not mistaken will deactivate in an estop).

Motor power should come from or be made available to motor only if estop loop is closed. If estop loop opens for any reason (estop button, onscreen button, servo fault, etc.) an estop contactor should drop out removing power from the motor so that even if the control side was telling it to rotate, it couldn't.

Remember, no software should be involved in any way in an estop (or other safety) loop. Hardware and wiring strategy should put the machine in a safe state if the estop loop is broken. Only use an estop input from estop contactor to simply notify Mach an estop has occurred and stop it from running.

Lol, We had an alligator in the pond across the road a few years ago. I was talking to someone further up north and they said they were surprised we had them here. I replied, "Not nearly as surprised as me! Never heard of one around here myself." We swam in that pond as kids. I threw my lab in it to get her swimming. Best to always be prepared to defend your title of "Top of the food chain" with whatever means necessary I guess. There have been recent reports of bears, panthers and even a wolf a guy shot and posted pictures of. Coyotes are prolific now and decimating all the game population (up to and including deer). All threats that did not exist in my area a few years ago..... or did they? If they did "ignorance is bliss" as they say.

Good guess Tweakie but no. What I'm thinking appears harmless and most embrace it.

Sad but true.

One theory is.... the one thing that allowed us to rise to the top of the food chain is language (the ability to convey a lot of very specific, detailed information quickly). While we regress, computing standards, capacity and ability progress. Can anyone guess what I would bet on being the new top of the food chain in the not to distant future?

Can you remove most of the material with a little smaller and shallower drill then finish with the end mill?

Think I remember Hood being very fond of what he called UDrills. Might be an option, I'm not sure.

What are your steps per for the axis showing the error? You can not move in partial steps. Only whole steps can be taken. So, the result is most likely the math of putting you as close to requested as possible.
