General Mach Discussion / Re: auto zero and touch plate
« on: September 17, 2009, 10:14:03 PM »
I have been working on an issue with my tool touch off routine and just got it straight. This was a macro I had been using for a couple of years already. I have been doing some testing and some where along the line it got broke. The problem was simple. The VB in Mach is running faster now so the sleep command is a necessity in many cases now. I have been aware of this for a good while now but the tunnel vision got me good this time.  ::) Can you paste this code in your button for a test for me?  Let me know if this works for you.

Brett

      'Auto tool touch off button script
Code "G90 F" &ProbeFeed

If GetOemLed (825)=0 Then
Code "G4 P2" 'Time to get to the z-plate
Code "G31Z-5 F" &ProbeFeed
Code "G4 P0.25"
While IsMoving()
Sleep(100)
Wend
ZProbePos = GetVar(2002)
Code "G0 Z" &ZProbePos
While IsMoving ()
Sleep(100)
Wend
Call SetDro (2, PlateThickness)
Sleep(100)
Code "G4 P0.5" 'Pause for Dro to update.
Code "G0 Z0.25" 'Change the Z retract height here
Code "(Z axis is now zeroed)"
Code "F" &CurrentFeed
Else
Code "(Z-Plate is grounded, check connection and try again)"
Exit Sub
End If

Members Docs / How to check backlash
« on: September 02, 2009, 02:41:05 PM »
   Checking your backlash should be no problem if you have an indicator. Put the indicator on something solid. Jog your axis until you move the indicator to a reading of about half of its travel. Write down the reading on the indicator. Jog the axis in the opposite (This is very important.  Backlash will only show up when you change direction or bouncing from tool load.)direction by a set amount, say .010" and see how much difference the indicator shows. If the indicator says you moved .005 and Mach says it has moved .010 then you have .005" backlash (assuming you have not skipped any steps while testing).

Members Docs / Steps per unit math example
« on: September 02, 2009, 02:34:38 PM »
Here is how you do the math. I will give you mine as an example. What we need to know is, How many pulses from Mach will it take to move the machine 1 of your units? (inch,mm, degrees) Mine is in inches. 1 inch = 10,000 pulses on mine. This is how I came up with the number.
My steppers have 200 pulses per revolution. ( 360 degrees divided by 1.8 degrees = 200 )
Micro stepping = 10. So 200 X 10=2,000
Motor to screw gearing is 1-1. So 2,000 X 1=2,000
Screw lead is .200 of an inch. My screw will have to turn 5 rounds to move the nut 1". 1.0 divided by 0.200=5. So 2,000 X 5=10,000.

Another note. When designing a system try to make the math come out so that your steps per can be divided evenly into the highest resoloution you will be trying to hold or higher. For arguments sake lets say you had a system that had 100 steps per unit and you wanted to travel .001 units. The closest you could possibly get is .009 units from where you want to be. Now say you have a set up that uses 950 steps per and want to move .001 units. You can get much closer but still no way of getting there exactly. You will be slightly under of over your target.
