Hi Tweakie, good to hear from you !
I've seen a documentary several times about Tesla. Amazing mind, and generous heart.
Seems he never received full recognition for his achievements.
Tesla is to electricity what Glenn Curtis was to aviation.

Cheers,
Russ

Very true RC, very true. I think Tesla understood electricity more than all of the rest of them combined. Not saying any of their contributions were not great. Simple minds like mine need all the help they can get and they all contributed to helping. Well, maybe not Edison. He just had the bankers behind him and had enough entitlement mentality to take the work of others and claim as his own. But in the end Tesla won (as he should have) AC Vs. DC. I just hate he did not get the recognition he deserved while still living. I can't think of anyone that contributed more to modern society than Tesla. Maybe the inventor of the silicon chip but would they have gotten there without Tesla's previous work?

Two greats, Tesla and Hood.

1) Can the first chunk of code you posted previously be placed in the ScreenLoad script? Will it detect the change in coroutine state there?

Yes and no. The code could be run in the screen load script as a function. However, something has to call that function when needed.

Quote
2) Can the function called by the coroutine be defined separate from the creation of the coroutine?  For example, is this allowed?

Absolutely, that is exactly how the ref all home button and function in the screen load script work. I did that for an example so others could see at least one way to use a coroutine.

Mach4 can handle it with no problem.

Mach4 General Discussion / Re: plc from macro
« on: March 15, 2019, 09:29:29 AM »
Ok, so you want something in the PLC script to run when something in a macro happens?

If so, have the macro change the value of a register. Have the PLC watch that register and when it equals whatever you set it to in the macro do your thing. And at the end of that thing set the register back to what it was before the macro changed it or the next time the PLC script runs it will do that thing again.

Macros and screen scripts are in completely different chunks. The only thing both can see are registers.

Comment out all of the sleeps and coroutine.yields.
Replace all of the GcodeExecute calls with GcodeExecuteWait. Another option may be to just create a single string and execute it in exact stop mode.

Look in the API help doc and compare GcodeExecute and GcodeExecuteWait. They have pretty good explanations.

Also, the coroutine.yield. You can't just place it anywhere and expect it to work. It's useless without the rest of the bits that go with it. Where are you creating this coroutine you are yielding? Where are you resuming this coroutine?

Define PLC.

There is the PLC script in the screen.

You could also have a physical PLC attached.

There is also the PMC objects in the screen which are generated an awful lot like physical PLCs ladder.

Just check to see if it exist. If not, create it again just as you did earlier. You need to test it but that should be pretty close.

Code: [Select]
local state = coroutine.status (DriveComm)
if (state == "dead") then
    DriveComm = coroutine.create(DriveCommunications(a, b, c, d)
end

Or, as in the PLC script.......
Code: [Select]
if (DriveComm == nil) then

Check out the coroutine in the ref. manual. http://www.lua.org/manual/5.3/manual.html#6.2

In the default wx4 or wx6 screens check out the Ref all button script, RefAll function in the screen load script and the bit that resumes it in the PLC script.

Mach4 General Discussion / Re: protected dro's

Don't think DRO properties will help.

Machine coords. = You cannot change. The only way it can be changed is by homing/referencing the axis or moving the axis.

Not sure what you mean by X Fixture offset and X Offset but if they are what I'm thinking you would change their respective # variable and the DROs will reflect that change.

Yup, I agree with Tweakie .... and Bill.

We have a great group. And we try real hard to not allow the wrong attitudes here. Thanks for noticing and just as important thank everyone for conducting themselves appropriately.
