No problem, I just got a few last week and they seem quite nice, not hooked up yet though.  Ray is absolutly right as well, I just posted those links to try to help you find some of the bits.  A sensor to monitor the spin and a timer will be needed to do it right.

Andy, I would do some more checking before I pulled the trigger.  I have not tried it with 8 personally, windows 8 is so new.  But, to answer your question, the Smooth Stepper will give you more IO than 2 Parallell ports would so if the machine is running on PPs, a Smooth Stepper should be all you need.

What message is being displayed in the status bar when it does this?  What is your debounce set to in general config?  Are you using a smooth stepper or parallel port?

I can restore from my backup of the particular custom profile and the homing process works again.

Is this not the profile your running all the time?  To be clear, the machine homes as it should using one profile and will not home as it should using a different profile.  Is that right?  If it is, why aren't you using the profile that homes as it should all the time?  What has changed to require a different profile?
