Rich,
A link would be nice to the manual

Brett,

I have seen that but have no idea how to make a new profile, what does the profile consist of motor tuning, axis and input/output settings? My instance is I want to use the program as a lathe (X,Z) and a mill (X,Y,Z) and a universal interface/screen would be nice to avoid confusion.  I looked either here or somewhere else for a Taig setup and found an .XLS file but was leary of loading it since I have no idea as to what each line means. Did not seem to be G or M code as far as I could see, so what is it?

How do I create a profile, are there instructions in the manual or something online as to how to do it? I have seen some things like this but don't understand the syntax used.

Have a look at the video, printer port hardware IRQ's & DMA settings, I am not at my CNC PC right now and can't check but if there is some interaction you could probably manually re-assigne the inturupt or uninstall and re-install either the port or video and it may "fix" itself.

OK,

How exactly do you bring up this display('s) since I am looking at doing both milling and turning on my Taig lathe?

I've hit this one a few times, is there a screen that pops up saying something is out of limits or any warning message on the bottom of the screen? Somehow soft limits always seem to be my problem.

Humm, what does this have to do with the video card? What ver of XP are you running, seems 64 bit has a inherent problem?

I took a quick look and cannot find the product, can you post a direct link to your board?

Generaly if your control board says 24 VDC max I would not exceed that, typicaly if you were to use a 24 volt transformer, full wave bridge and some filter caps you would see about 28 VDC on the output. What exact controller board do you have a link to the manual would help out answering your question.

Well just as an experiment I set up at 1/8 step, 32000 steps per inch and about 75" a min with a moderate acceration, sing went the motor and stopped turning, cut back the feed rate and acceleration since the top of the curve was off the chart and they seem to work reasonably well, I think I will stick with half or quarter step as the old finger on the gear torque test seems to show a loss of power at 1/8 step no matter how slow I set the feed and acceleration, but it's been educational.

Thanks for the step & dir pulse answer, apparently my board is happy with zero as it seems to work all right there. Not wanting to go to the calculator I suppose longer pulse and higher step rate must cross paths at some point and stall the motors also.

Thanks for your input and not telling me to "RTFM" as I have gotten on other forums when asking questions, I ususally try to read or at least skim over the manual but somtimes if you don't know the right terminology it's impossible to look up the answers.
