Once I corrected the two or three lines by changing "0.0000" to "0.0001" everything looks good. Ready to run on your CNC.

I have noticed in the past that I have run up against the same problem.

Some where along the line, one of the programs used in drawing, or creating G-cod (Lazy-Cam), has rounded down a very small number, say ".0002" to ".000". What I did for a quick fix was to just make the zero radius the smallest number acceptable by my CNC program.

For me it wasn't a serious problem, but I would check to see the settings in all your programs, to make sure they all have a decimal place setting of 4 (".0000") to allow for small fractional numbers without rounding down.

So Richard......

To answer your question, check to see that the program you are using correctly converts your holes to a proper DXF file.
It maybe converting holes into tiny small segmented straight lines.  If so Lazy cam will not be able to use the drill hole feature.
Try another Cad program and then check the results.

Ok, here is what I found after a year or two of using lazy cam.

If lazy cam does not see your holes as .....well, holes.  Then it assumes it is a line instead, and therefore will not drill them as such.
I use Corel Draw X-4, and it will not for the life of me, convert holes properly, or arcs as well.
I used another program called "ViaCad" and finally..... Lazy cam drilled my holes using the drill holes command.
I guess the problem is in the conversion from Corel to DXF file.  Corel Draw doesn't convert properly.
I used a program called "DXF tools for Corel" and it corrected all the problems in the conversion, but it only works on Corel 12 on Windows XP.
It was I good program and I wish Corel would implement it in their program.  Or at the very least,  I wish Lazy cam would come up with a fix.

Ok sorry, what is XML?  I will as soon a I know what it is.

Yes, as a forth axis it works well for gear cutting, dividing etc.  Where the problem comes in to play is where I wanted to try it to do some lathe work.
But as I soon found out, you have to program almost every line of code with code to move the A-axis, and some heavy calculations.
I used my cordless drill on the divider to cut some shapes out, but now that I have the stepper connected, I would lust like to use it.

Thanks for the input guys.

It seems as if I haven't found the correct settings to use a stepper as a spindle. 
I have tried different values in the MDI using "S*********" 
I have played with every posible variable imaginable.
The best I can get is a heavy pulse to my stepper about once every half second.
I have set my steps per unit, velocity, out puts, I have played with spindle speeds etc.

Under setup - spindle setup - motor control - I changed to "PWM control" and my stepper started to turn, but only at one speed (slow) and the pulses where very harsh and heavy sounding.
I also got a reverse this time. But I think that "PWM control" if for servo motors.

I am so close, I just feel as if I am missing one step.  My stepper works very well set up as an a-axis, just wish it would set up as well as a spindle.

I like that idea.  So last night I tried it.

Now my next question is.....can you use a stepper motor as a spindle?

I read my mach3 manual and went through all the steps.  And after some time I finally got the stepper (4th axis) to turn using it as a spindle.
However it was very slow and harsh sounding, and there was no speed control, it was either on or off.
It's as if the stepper was just receiving the wrong pulses.

So what do you think I am missing?  All my other motors set up without a hitch, and my 4th axis works fine when not used as a spindle.

Any help would be great.

General Mach Discussion / 4th Axis - How do I constantly rotate it?

 just added a 4 axis to my system.  This axis is a rotary head / divider.
I want to turn it on so that it continues to rotate at a constant speed while Mach3 runs my program (g-code).
In other words I want to use the rotary head like a lathe head.   
So how do I program the 4th axis to turn on at the beginning of my g-code file, then turn off at the end?

Any suggestions?  Thanks.

General Mach Discussion / DFX tool loading problems anyhelp please

Hey.

I am running Vista (service pac 2) with Corel Draw X4.  When trying to install in DXF Tools it comes up with an error  ---  "could NOT locate GMS folder".

Does any one know what that means, and how to correct it.
