as a newcomer to mach 3 and cnc, setting up the machine can be a minefield. There are so many options and cross options it's easy to get confused, so i would watch the first two tutorial videos, they have helped me so much and got me out of some wierd problems.

Take it in steps, get the movements in the right direction first with the dro going the right way, then sort out the home switches. Finally the soft limits, they never seem to work until everything is right.

I've converted a novamill and boxford 260 to mach3 over the last month or so and it's a great feeling when they do what you tell them.

You will get it sorted, and when you do you'll see where you went wrong and think, oh yeh i should have known that.

this one takes a second or two to update after a config change. I'm throwing xp on an old desktop i've got here atm, i'll see what results that gives.

the tiny laptop i have that runs both machines is old'ish. seems that the old ones maybe the way to go if i want to stick to a laptop.

I've got two bench top mills, a denford novatech and a boxford 260vmc, and I've converted both to mach3.

The denford's logic is 5v and the boxford's logic is 12v, and I'm getting wierd problems with different laptops when i try to run the machines.

Configs are correct on both machines.

They both run fine on my desktop which is a dual core, but if i use a pentium 4 toshiba laptop, the denford runs well but the boxford wont run at all.

With another pentium 4 dell laptop both machines have problems and stall at anything above 1000mm/min, but with a trusty old pentium 3 tiny laptop i can run 3000mm/min on the boxford, and the denford has no problems either.

Any thoughts ?

General Mach Discussion / metric readings in centimetres.

Hi, i'm in the process of converting a denford novamill to mach3. Everything is progressing well, but i've noticed a small point that doesn't seem right. The readings seem to be in centimetres rather than millimetres. Can this be changed, and i'm in the demo version at the moment does that make a difference.
