I've converted a few of these older triacs, and once you get into it it's a peice of cake to convert to Mach. The stepper drives could be kept, the psu, the contactor, and if it works the vfd. The vfd (brown and pestell) is notorious for failing for no reason, and can be replaced with a modern vfd.
All you need is a good breakout board and an isolated 0-10v analogue board for the vfd. If you need any pointers give me a shout.

to use them, it looks like you're going to have to make a holder out of a soft ended r8 blank using the nut and collets from your set.

I have the full milling set for the clarke CL500. I am looking to get a R8 milling chuck ans wouldering if anyone knows what the clarke collets will fit industry wise, 20,20,32 you get what I mean. I dont want to buy more than I need to with the way work is right  now so if you can help out please do or give me the specs so I can measre up and see if I can figure out what I have.
Many thanks to all that answer Rik

That machine has an  MT3 taper for the mill spindle so an R8 will not fit, you should be looking for an ER type collet chuck with MT3 shank

Phil
He already has this set for the clarke mill, i think he wants to know what type of collet is used in the set, so he can buy an r8 holder for them for his denford mill.

Watching this thread develope has got me thinking of converting a Harrison M300 to cnc. I have a 3hp Boxford 240 cnc lathe at the moment, but now and again i need a bit more z movement than the slant bed boxford will allow, and the harrison M300 sat in the back of my storage would make a lovely straight bed cnc.
