In the bios, disable C1E or EIST if you have them. Also, disable any unused hardware in the bios.

hopefully someone will figure out what is the cause of this noise. I have just picked up 8 dell optiplex gx620 desktops and i've loaded xp and mach3 on all, on the first four two have the noise issue and two are fine...strange.

Yes it was 25.4.  Turns out that the "native units" in the configuration was set for mm instead of inches even though all the motor set up was configured as inches.  When I selected the inches option the problem was solved.

Spot on, isn't it great when you get it sorted...
