General Mach Discussion / Turning
« on: September 02, 2012, 06:11:02 AM »
Hi I have been using Mach 3 for some time on my CNC router however I am building a cnc lathe and would like to know what is required to draw and create g codes to send to Mach 3.

I use Vetric Aspire for my cnc router so is there a similar software at a reasonable cost for turning.

Thanks in advance

General Mach Discussion / Z axis problem
« on: June 30, 2012, 11:00:51 AM »
Hi All, I have been using Mach 3 for a few years without any problems until now.

I was setting the motor turning for my new stepper motor on the z axis ( it is the same motor as on the X & Y axis) the first run went fine but the distance moved was wrong so I did another run and this is when it all went wrong.

When I hit run the motor moved but it never stopped until it hit the E stop and I had set it to move 20mm. I went  back to program mode and tried the movement on the Z axisi to find the motor moved as normal but no reading as to the position.

I have checked all settings and cannot find anything wrong, accept for when running the diagnostic screen  where it shows "output current state for port 1 has only two green lights showing and I am assuming that there should be three one for each axis ?

I may well be missing something obvious but I cannot find anywhere to put this right.

Any ideas to solve this would be much appreciated.

General Mach Discussion / Home limits
« on: July 31, 2011, 12:48:13 PM »
Hi All, it is a long time since I had any problems but I have just rebuilt my CNC Router and decided to fit homing limit switches.

I followed the self set up on all the Axis ( or I think so) and what I am getting is Z axis goes to the home switch and backs then X axis goes to home stitch and backs off but when the Y axis hoes to the home switch it goes into E stop.

This is driving me mad as I have tried several times to config the settings, some times the home switch on the Z and X axis goes into E stop after I have (as I think) re set the home switches.

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong.

Thanks

General Mach Discussion / X Y problem
« on: March 10, 2011, 03:55:20 AM »
Hi All It is a ling time since I had any problems with Mac 3 but I have come across a strange thing when I a cutting a simple square or rectangle.

What is happening is that on the axis change two of the corners are square and two of the corners are radius these are on diagonal corners if I change the cut to clime mill the opposite corners  are rounded.

I have checked the parameters but cannot seem to find anything wrong.

On any other milling it does not seem to happen  circles, etc are spot on as is any other carving I do.

I thought it might have to do with the acceleration difference between the X & Y axis but I have tried altering this but it does not seem to cure the problem.

No doubt I have got something wrong in the settings and as usual someone will be able to sort this out for me.

Thanks Ray

General Mach Discussion / Forth axis
« on: October 07, 2008, 04:19:09 AM »
Hi all I am not sure if this is the place for this question but here goes.

I have just added a forth axis to my set up and all is working fine through Mach3

I want to mill in the round and cannot find any tutorial to show me how it is done.

Any advice would be apreciated

General Mach Discussion / Problem with cutting
« on: August 21, 2008, 11:34:13 AM »
Hi All, I have the most puzzling problem.

I have built two cnc routers I used the same routout controls and the same stepper motors and both machines work fine until I noticed that one of the machines
when cutting circles seems to step around the circle where the other machine cuts with a smooth action.

On trials I did cutting the same size circle.

The machine that cuts in a smooth action cuts 5 times faster using exactly the same settings as the other machine.

Now here is the funny part when I cut a rectangle of the same size the machine that cuts fastest on a circle is now the slowest, not by as much though

I use a PC on the one that cuts a circle with the stepping motion running windows XP the other machine is a laptop running windows 2000

I have switched machines with the computers and the results transfered to the other machine.

So the laptop works fine on both machines

The PC works both machines but with the same result when cutting circles ie slower and with a stepping motion

The only difference I can see is the laptop is running windows 2000 and the PC windows XP and has a lot more computing power than the laptop

Any ideas as to the problem

Thanks
Ray

General Mach Discussion / Stepper motor size
« on: June 28, 2008, 12:23:56 PM »
Hi all,

I am just finishing the build of my second CNC router but I am having problems with drive to my X axis.

I am using my Nema 23 motor from my smaller machine to drive a 1000mm X 20mm lead screw

The lead screw turns freely by hand over the full travel so there is no bind up

I have put a 2-1 reduction via timing pulleys and I have tried several settings in motor turning but I guess it just is not man enough for the job.

I was thinking of getting a Nema 34 motor but I am not sure if this will be man enough any thoughts on this ?

I am using a routout control box with a 2.5 amp output will this be man enough to drive a larger stepper motor ?

Any ideas on this

General Mach Discussion / Hot key set up
« on: March 12, 2008, 02:26:58 PM »
Hi All,

I am new to CNC and am am having problems in the set up of the DRO's

The tool moves to the right but the DRO counts down the set up says to change the hotkey for the axis jog,

This is done by selecting the Hotkeys in the config Menu.

Now all was OK up to this point but I cannot understand how to change this setting.

I would like to know how this is done.

Thanks in advance
