I did this a while ago......

It could for applications such as artcam.

I took my tablet PC and drew a few things on the tablet.  Then imported the images into artcam  and created releifes from them.

I try to take alot of clear pictures in hopes that anyone in my same situation  will understand more of what can be done to and with these cheap (I use the term in describing the quailty of the MAXNC machine).

They can be made to preform alot better then stock.

I hated the machine for the longest time,  almost Ebayed it a few times... but its starting to come together and I am having a blast finally producing with it.

Xylotex driven, 269 oz steppers.  Home made thrust bearing and Flex couplers.  More problems you could shat a stick at!  Rapids with old 114 oz steppers was a absolute max of 15 ipm..... but lost steps.  Now im at a stable 20 ipm rappids and cut my wax and plastics at full speed.  Simple custom 4th axis that I was told wouldnt work to well  but it does nicley.
Alot of thanks to ART,Steve, and countless others for their patience and input... hey we all gotta learn.
Machine and some work can be seen here.......  Back when I was running Turbocnc.  Now its mach 3 all the way.

thats great,  that means no other hardware to buy.......controller board wise.......

I know im new to the board....Im pretty good at finding things out,  but expect questions none the less.

My momma always said, "There is no such thing as a stupid question,  just stupid people" :)

Thank you for helping clear this up for me.

So, what im gathering is that the probe just interacts with pins from the LPT port and is supported by some sort of software?  So in theroy, no extra controller board is needed except a breakout board to wire up to the ports on the LPT....  This sound correct?

I know that the controller doesnt do digitizing....  Whst is out there to get digitizing to work with this controller?

General Mach Discussion / Re: Old MaxNC Controller open Loop two Port

Im going to be totally honest with you on this.....
I too had a MAXNC older OL copntroller.   It developed some minor issues.   Finally got ahold of someone at MAXNC.......   they wanted to sell me a whole new controller.    Said that I could send in my box,  they would look at it for $55 an hour.  Most things take 3 to 4 hours to fix plus parts.... Or I could get a new controller  (2005) model for $375.......

The run around I got with them.........   ICK.....
So I ordered a new 4 axis xylotek controller.

But to answer half your question.......
I know Mach 2 should work for what your neededing,  and I beleive Mach 3 will as well.

as for the setup.......  Dunno as I have NIXED Maxnc

I have ordered the 4 axis controller..... and am going to need some "Mach 3 setup for dummies"

Also........
Will mach 3 work reliably on a 900 mhz p3 machine?
