General Mach Discussion / Manual Motor tuning
« on: November 01, 2006, 08:54:08 AM »
Hey guys.
I finally mounted the z axis stepper on my Mill/Drill.
As it's a temp solution because I eventually will use a servo I just mounted it on
the side of the head with a belt going to the Micro feed knob on the mill.
Heres the issue.
Its a 140 OZ stepper as hardly any tourque is needed to turn that wheel.
its a 200 step per rev motor.
I tried to auto calibrate it like I did with my X&Y servo's but that dont float !!!
I set it to move 2 inches .. it moved like a 1/8 Inch so Mach set it to 10,000 steps per !!!  LOL
That little puppy doesnt have a chance !!!

How can I calibrate a stepper to move an Inch when I want it to move an inch ???

Is the problem that Im using the micro feed spindle adjustment ??
The step down ratio must be huge . When I jog up and down its pretty dang slow.
I can deal with Slow I just want it to be acurate as far as movement measure.
Any idea's ??

General Mach Discussion / Homing weirdness
« on: October 14, 2006, 05:59:22 PM »
Forgive me if this is something silly, But its got me stumped.

I set up a home switch on the X axis just to get a feel on how to set them up.
I have it set to normally closed , and manually hitting the switch lights up the LED Yadi yadi yadi,
The problem Im having is when I referance home the X axis moves about 1/8 inch to the switch then stops ?
Over and Over.
If I keep hitting ref home until the switch is hit it then backs off the switch like it should ?
Any idea what I may have set up wrong ?

It rapid and slow jogs just fine.

General Mach Discussion / Newbie servo question
« on: October 09, 2006, 01:24:42 PM »
Hey guys.
Ive tried researching this but came up empty.
I have Pittman 14207S007 Servo's running on Gecko 320's for my X and Y axis.
Im trying to tune the motors but dont know what the heck Im doing  :)
I cant find out from my vendor what cpr I should set up .
It seem's they run smooth when jogging but sometimes stop for a sec and the DRO keeps going ???
Could that be a Accel/ Velocity issue as well as the CRP setup ?
Running the famous road runner it seems fine (Moving Slow)
Its the fast jog where I have the issue.
Thanks.

I got X & Y hooked up and just couldnt wait to make the servo's move .. hehe
They Move !!!   Woot.

But when I run a test GCode they move Sooooooo  Sloooow ..
I tweaked a few things in motor tuning but it didnt make a Diff ?
What am I missing here ?  ???

General Mach Discussion / Mix of Servo/Stepper motors
« on: September 27, 2006, 09:19:46 AM »
Hi guys.
I have a benchmill/drill Im converting and already have the X & Y axis done, Using Gecko 320's and some
Pittman Lo-Cog Servo's.
I have several high end stepper motors in storage and was wondering If I can use a Stepper for the Z axis
along with the two servo's already in service ?
I have a second Parallel port I can use.
Anybody already do this ?
Thanks.
