they do it all the time with hand held routers. Diamond bits, lot of water it would be a mess unless you were geared for slop.Ask some questions at a shop that works stone counter tops or search lapidary supply.AL

Thanks for the help guys .This is starting to look like a good plan. the Galil site states  (the newer controllers have added commands for counting position) What newer is I dont know.
This is for losing steps as I read but Im still two or three months off real start.I live in northern MN, waiting for snow to melt and building a garage this machine will fit in comes first.  Al

I wouldnt think of that as a good buy. Unless you know for sure the condition of the non cnc part. You might dump some cash in the head before you even start the retro.have you heard it run and ran it through the speeds. Those are not a machine people look for.Look up some  auction achives in your area to see what theve been selling for. Al

Thanks for the stop lesson.I'll incorporate a contactor with timer for the estop .If a person can assemble one of these I'm sure they could build in safety.Your references should help Al

reading some of these posts about spontanious machine runs. There needs to be a discussion about a basic hardwire start stop circuit for machine power.I would suggest a start stop button controlled contacter with the soft estop controlling a relay in series with the stop circuit. If someone has a basic circuit diagram they could post go for it Al

General Mach Discussion / Re: PCI port card addressing woes

i'm usiing  xp pro, i won't touch vista with a bargepole especially anything relying on low-level or time critical operations. now, i haven't used a 9735 chipset but i imagine it should perform pretty much the same as the one i was using, in xp at least.  if vista doesn't handle physical addressing in the same way as xp then you may be a bit stuck - there is a whole forum on vista compatibility. i won't be reading it until somebody not from redmond says anything nice about vista which doesn't involve desktop effects.

for my next trick i'm going to have to build a charge-pump safety board, since the lpt makes the relays snap on and off when the computer wakes up and coughs, and i don't want the spindle jumping about and the coolant jizzing all over, etc.

disableing self check in bios might do it

General Mach Discussion / signal split question
« on: April 01, 2008, 08:32:31 PM »
This will probably take someone with hands on signal experience but here goes.Weve established I have a complmentary or differential  quadrature signal.I.E. +-a,+-b, index. Can this signal be split using only +A,+B ,index and disregard the rest.Im wondering If I can close to mach and galil . or is an useless effort. It may be usefull to others in any case. thanks Al
