General Mach Discussion / Re: How to reverse axis direction ?
« on: December 04, 2011, 04:01:00 PM »
BR549,

How would I go about changing that?

Ger,

How can you tell  if it is rotated?

Will it stay that way in settings?

I checked the reverse boxes in the home/limits and it started to home out on the opposite  ends of the table. Also when the inputs or motor pins are checked active low it homes out on the opposite ends.

General Mach Discussion / How to reverse axis direction ?
« on: December 04, 2011, 01:38:16 PM »
I have everything running ok except for the axis direction.

The following Pic will explain:

From the middle of the table ( Home all Ref) moves  X & Y to the home position.

To move away from home requires a Neg-  move on both X & Y.

I have tried  changing the input pins  to active low on home switches & homing limits to Neg/Rev and it tried to home in the opposite direction.

Do I need  to change the wiring polarity from the drives to the motors  ? Which wires on the Gecko need to be reversed also?

Maybe there is a setting in Mach to do this without changing the wiring.

Thanks for the help everyone.  ;D

Mach Screens / Re: A redo of scott's Back In Black screen

Dave,

I sure don't.

These screens are really nice, though.

Got it figured out. ;)

When  I was trying to get the pendant to work a while back, it had a interface board that came with the pendant.

It had a sample .XML file and brains & settings.

The pendant never would work with the board.

I bypassed the board and used the pendant directly with the 2nd parallel port.

After looking through the input pins , the E-stop was set for a different pin and checked as " Emulated".

Now all is good.

That is another reason  like buying all of my stuff from the same supplier.

I've got everything working, but when I  hit the E-stop.

The movement stops. No charge pump running, and the E-stop lights on the B_o_B indicate E-stop.

Mach keeps running??? The readouts count along just like nothing happened.

It used to be that when I hit E-stop, Mach went into Reset Mode and you had to clear the switch, and reset Mach.

When  I was trying to get  that pendant board to work a few weeks ago, is when it changed.

What should the inputs really be for the E-stop & Reset mode?

Right now it shows to be an emulated input.

Thanks,

General Mach Discussion / Re: question about limit travels

Thanks Hood,

As long as the Z is first, the rest will be ok with me. :)

I'm gonna leave the screens and these type settings  " stock" factory settings until I learn more about  Mach.

It will be easier for people to help me when I get in trouble.  ::)

Thanks again,

Thanks guys,

That explained it better than anywhere I've looked.

General Mach Discussion / question about limit travels
« on: November 25, 2011, 12:37:42 PM »
I am setting up my limit switch travel limits.

Here is a pic  to help explain:

The machine is jogged into the home/limit switch, then backed off until the switch is cleared of error.

The digital readout is zeroed.

The machine is jogged in the opposite direction until the limit is tripped,  then backed off until the  switch is clear of error. <  ( It now reads 13.070 inches.)

I want  to set the machine: HOME= .100" off of the trigger, and soft limit .500 off of trigger.
Opposite  soft limit is .500 from the other trigger.

How do I put this info in  the  following configuration  box:

Would this work:

Home offset .100"

Slow Zone  1.00"

Soft min   .500"

Soft max 12.500"

I'll have to mess with the Home neg and reversed to see which direction I need, and the speed will be 10% for the slow zone.

Are there any recommendations for Auto Zero ?

I would like for the Z axis to home before the X & Y home out.

If this is confusing let me know.

Thanks in advance.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Ordered 3 Dugong drives for my Hurco
« on: November 10, 2011, 11:26:41 AM »
Mato,

That sounds pretty good, but  the machine is already built . Right now the wiring is being cleaned up and all of the conduit straightened out.

The factory Hurco motors were used ( DC servos).

I'll check into those other drives and motors they sound interesting.

Guys,

It ended up with Gecko drives.

After paying for the Dugongs, it took about 8 or 10 weeks to realize they weren't coming.

I got a refund after week 10. :(

The Geckos are easy to get, and you can have a new one in your hands within 24 hours almost anywhere in the world.

After my mill is running good, a spare Gecko 320x ,amt-103 encoder + a few other goodies will be in my spare box.

It scares me to think about taking jobs in and have a Servo Drive go out. Then hear it will be 12 weeks until you can get a new one.

I know, I know, a spare Dugong would help that. ::)

But if something was wrong with my machine/wiring and the spare Dugong blew out before  the problem was found?????

I'll get all of my stuff together and post some pics and a build-up of it.

By waiting until it is finished, it won't be a blow-by-blow showing all of the mistakes and questions, etc.< ( I don't like reality shows because of this. What I had for dinner the night the X-axis servo was installed is irrelevant). ;D ;) :-X 8)

If I do another mill, it will be the same set-up so that parts will interchange.

 (1) spare Gecko will fit either machine, or lets take this off of mill #2 and see if it  fixes the problem on mill #1.

I know, I'm cheap and try to keep things simple. :D

Thanks for all of the help and interest along the way,

Everyone has been great!!!!

JAckal :)
