Nice work, you have made great progress.

The unwanted lines are clearly the laser not turning OFF correctly but the missing lines are strange. Perhaps you could observe the engraving to determine if the laser is turning OFF too early or turning ON too late ?

It could be related to your CAD/CAM but if you post your problem Gcode I will test it here and that will prove one way or the other.

The Mach3 Impact / Laser plugin only operates using the Parallel Port and will not work when using the ESS.

Welcome to the forum.
It would be good if you could resize any future images that you post to 800x600 – it makes them much easier to read. I have resized your current images.

Firstly check that the wire pairs that you have selected for your 8 wire stepper motor are correct – this is important.

The board you have shown is a Parallel Port board which gets its DC power from the USB connection. It does not require a driver. It will not work with Win10 or a laptop so use your old PC with the Parallel Port.
For your motor driver leave the REST terminals unconnected (at present time), connect the CP- and CW- terminals to board GND, then CP+ is the STEP connection and CW+ is the DIRECTION connection. Refer to the Mach3 manual for setting the Ports and Pins accordingly.

A bit further down the line… the Smooth Stepper 2 has some analogue inputs which would allow your square wave signal to use a simple digital to analogue conversion to easily get the flow rate data into a Mach3 DRO.
It may be possible to do something similar with the current ESS using, as you suggest, a single byte every x seconds but I have no idea how to go about it. However, there are others much more knowledgeable then me and hopefully they may be able to suggest a way.

Sounds like a fun project.
It may be a lot easier to make your Flow Meter a ‘Stand-Alone’ unit using a PLC or Arduino or similar to measure the pulse rate then drive a separate digital readout display. You could then have an alarm signal output which would Estop Mach3 and turn off the spindle if the flow rate went below a certain value.

I use a water flow sensor and temperature sensor with my laser, I am not really interested in the actual flow rate as if the flow stops it operates the Mach3 Estop and if the water temp. exceeds a pre-set limit again it operates Estop.
I don’t have to visually monitor anything as the system will operate automatically and over the last 11 Years it has behaved perfectly.

I forgot to say, if you change the IJ Mode you then need to regen. the toolpath display to remove the Crop Circles.

Any ideas what could be causing this behavior please?

Change the IJ Mode (Config. / General Config.)

Ideally your Gcode file should contain the G90.1 / G91.1 (as appropriate) - Please refer to the Mach Manual for further details.
