Nice looking machine you have there Tom.

I would be inclined to opt for 2000 steps per revolution as I am not convinced of any real benefit from going higher.

Hi Mikee,

Once you have it all set up and working correctly that is the time to consider increasing the motors current settings if it is necessary.

Sounds like you are well on your way - don't forget to post some pictures of things that you make with your new CNC

Mikee,

As far as I can tell switches #4 and #8 are unused and should be ignored.

You have set #1,#2.#3 for 1/4 step which is OK but 1/8 or 1/16 would be better and give a much smoother motor response.

You would be wise to initially set #5,#6,#7 (currently 3 Amps) to a lower current such as 1.5Amps for testing and setting up as this will dissipate less heat in the motors etc.

Tangent Corner / The Silly season has started.

The silly season has started at work where the foreign visitors and groups get show around.
I hate being put on exhibit so a few of these dotted around should, perhaps, give the management the message. 

This is Traffolite engraving laminate with a Clarendon 4 line typeface using a 90 degree engraving point and a depth of 0.3mm.

I can only guess but VFD's can be a major source of noise - check with the instructions that it is connected correctly and that it has a good earth connection and also that your incoming mains supply provides a good earth connection.

I would be inclined to look for electrical noise from your spindle or spindle switching system. Any electrical noise on an axis step pin can cause unwanted movement of that axis.
Can you please give us more details of your spindle and controller type ? (photo's perhaps).
