Hi Peter,

Your motor output pins setup and the other settings all look Ok at this stage.

The problem may be with your laptop.
The opto isolators on the 6560 controller board generally require the full 5 Volts TTL and there is a chance that your laptop printer port outputs 3.3 Volt TTL signals which is just not enough.
Is there any chance you could use (borrow) and old desktop PC just to try to see if there is any difference ??

Hi Larry,

The mid-band resonance issue has been covered here and on the zone quite a lot and looking through a previous thread Gerry said that his Xylotex  was practically unusable without the dampners. http://www.machsupport.com/forum/index.php/topic,17670.0.html
Some have had success using just a flywheel but technically they should ‘rattle’ and have the moveable elements which dynamically alter the resonant frequency as soon as the stepper stutters. They are pretty simple to make and from the tests that I have made the one I fitted to my 4th axis makes a big difference to the rapid speeds.

Not a job I was looking forward to doing but it had to be done. The 4 exhaust thermocouples each had asbestos sleeving and this had to be safely removed and replaced with fibreglass braided sleeving.
This is the quantity of asbestos used on one thermocouple and I am not yet certain where I have to take the stuff or how much it will cost for the approved disposal.

I think the problem is that version R3.043.022 is not compatible with the Pirate license file you are using (please correct me if I am wrong).

Great news Pog, extremely pleased you have got your motors running and you are making progress 

The motor tuning is related to many factors and rather than repeat stuff here it is best described in the Mach manual http://www.machsupport.com/documentation.php

Calculate your steps per unit based on leadscrew pitch, set microsteps, motor steps and any gearing you may have - the velocity setting relates to your machine's resistance to motion and the acceleration relates to the mass of the moving parts with both of these settings usually found by trial and error. The velocity setting needs to be set some 20% or so below the maximum you can achieve in order to get reliable machine operation.
