Hi Nigel,

If you haven't done so already you should perhaps check out Gearotic Motion http://www.gearotic.com/
Art and Bob have developed a pretty easy to use gear design software and method of use for helical as well a spur gears (active forum as well).

Just a thought.

I must admit that I first tried to interpret it in text speak (M8 for mate etc.) but it is just not that subtle. Interesting nonetheless.

Hi Andre,

You are possibly looking in the wrong place with your oscilloscope. The PWM signal is on the Spindle Step Pin (as set up in Ports and Pins / Motor Outputs).

Hi Stephane,

Perhaps some more details of your machine and it’s set-up may be helpful in identifying the problem.

If you have an occasional ‘tick’ when driving your stepper motors from one end to the other end of an axis travel then this could indicate ‘lost steps’. If any of your stepper motors make this occasional ‘tick’ when stationary then I would suspect the problem is electrical noise.

Is your limit switches and e-stop wiring made with shielded cable ??

Also….If you return to the main forum page then carry out a search for ‘lost steps’ you will find many suggestions, some of which may be helpful to resolving your problem.

Hi Homer,

Your stepper motors should be running warm to the touch but not so hot that you cant hold your hand on them. If they are running too hot then reduce the current setting to your motors (voltage is OK).

As for the stalling (squealing) - you need to reduce your Velocity and Acceleration setting in the Motor Tuning section and then 'Save Axis Settings' - Try using a velocity 30% less than you currently have set.
