Hi Earl,

Welcome to the forum.

It is usually better to post any questions, such as this, as a new topic in the General section because it has more exposure and a better chance of helpful replies.

Some, perhaps many motherboards which do not have the DB25 socket often have a 26 way IDC type (parallel port) socket on the board somewhere. A short 26 way IDC to DB25 converter cable can then be used in these circumstances.
Failing that then the options are to get another motherboard which has the parallel port or use an external motion controller (USB or Ethernet) such as the Smooth-Stepper http://warp9td.com/

I am sorry, but I just can’t help smiling at all this.

I am assuming you are serious here and that this is not just a wind-up but you are over-complicating every issue without reading and taking-in the sound advice that others, especially Mr Hood, have been giving you.

The Mach manual clearly (in my opinion) details the Port and Pins set-up, perhaps you could print out the relevant parts (Section 5) and follow the instructions just one step at a time http://www.machsupport.com/docs/Mach3Mill_1.84.pdf. This may save you a lot of time and frustration. If you just keep going round and round in circles like this then you may never get your machine working from your PC.

Any way to tell from specifications if the pci card has a 3.3v or 5v output? 

Perhaps not from the spec. but if you hook a voltmeter between any axis output direction pin and pin 25 you will get a reading (Approx. 0V when you jog that axis in one direction and 5V when you jog it in the other). If you only get 3.3V then, as already said, this could possibly be the problem.

Couldn't say one way or the other if that box is OK - certainly the bay description sounds good and the price is good as well but the overall quality will be an unknown.

If you want a quality product with excellent documentation and backup then the Gecko drives take a lot of beating http://www.geckodrive.com/geckodrive-step-motor-drives.html but there will be UK import duties / vat on top of the price.

Does you existing controller look like this one ?
