General Mach Discussion / Re: Machine wont zero after Homing

Hi Martin,

Sorry to hear that you are having problems getting everything to run correctly.

Just to be sure - you have set motor directions so that the origin (X zero – Y zero) is with the cutter at the bottom left hand corner of the work ??

It’s open to debate but this is what I would suggest…

Initially, I would recommend setting up your motor tuning steps per unit using 1/8 micro-stepping (there is little or no advantage in going to 1/16).
Set your motor current so that the motors will run warm to the touch but not so hot that you cannot hold your hand on them with comfort.

Check your wiring runs…
Inputs (limit / home switches, e-stop etc.) should be connected using shielded wiring, with the shield connected to a single point earth at the controller end. All other earth connections, including the machine frame, should connect to this single point earth. (If your wiring looks like a rats nest then that is asking for problems).

Mains wiring should be routed separately to the signal wiring (Inputs).

Perhaps posting a picture of what you have at present (layout of the wiring) may help with suggestions.

Hope this is of assistance,

Tweakie.

I would suspect that the IFR630 (or one of it’s control components) has become short circuit.

Please forgive me, I don't mean any disrespect, but better quality electronics may be the way forward.

Previously linked to by GrandpawB on the OpenBuilds forum this Midi to GCode online converter produces surprisingly accurate results. http://en.homeconstructor.de/converter-convert-music-in-g-code.html

Just a bit of fun.

Hi Wagner,

Sorry I can't be of more help but...

The XYDrive website was taken down some time ago and the business seems to have closed.

Personally I would junk the XYDrive stuff and fit new parts.

Thanks Craig, I would be most interested to hear their explanation.

QQ - why Papa Fabio? Is that the alias of the hacker or something?

Papa Fabio is one of the oldest pirate licenses around, it no longer works but I think Routout CNC perhaps have a bit of explaining to do over charging a customer for a pirate license or even supplying anyone with a pirate license even if no charge was made.

Hi Wagner,

Xydrive Automation LLC are probably not the best business to try and buy from - there are much better devices available, with better support etc. Perhaps look at the CNC4PC site  http://www.cnc4pc.com/Store/osc/index.php  or the Gecko site http://www.geckodrive.com/products-order.html - both have a much better track record.

I had it in mind that you might be able to do this using axis formulas (Function Cfgs). I tried it but it just produced a nonsense toolpath. A bit more diddling and either I'm doing it wrong or formulas don't work properly. Really simple ones seem to work but anything slightly complicated seems to throw it. The example on the formulas dialog implies it CAN handle more complex formulas but not here anyway. (3.43.22).

I looked at this as well but concluded that Nick is quite right - it is really a job for the CAM software to sort out.

General Mach Discussion / Re: 3D printing with Mach 3
« on: April 13, 2014, 02:30:47 AM »
Ok, now I am really confused.  I've been looking at the G-code produced by Simplify3D slicer. I sliced a simple part.  At the beginning of each layer to print it positions the nozzle and then there is a line G1 E1 F1800.  At the end of the layer there is a line G1 E-1 F1800.  What does this code do?  Is it the E (extruder) axis that moves 1 mm at F1800, then back 1mm at the end?  Or is it a rotary axis that starts by E1 and rotates continuously at F1800, then stops when the E-1 is reached? Any help would be appreciated.

Gary,

Perhaps ask your question on the Simplify3D forum http://www.forum.simplify3d.com/   ;)
