Show"N"Tell ( Your Machines) / Re: The Laser Project.
« on: February 14, 2013, 12:44:11 PM »
Hi Yanxin,

DotG has been designed for reproducing a one bit, ‘dot-dithered’ image (one with a varying density of equal sized dots to create the illusion of shade) and when set in ‘dot’ mode the laser is only fired when the X and Y axes are stationary.

To fire the laser I am using the M11P1/M10P1 command set together with an imaginary B axis and my Post Processor (see posting #641) essentially creates this code for each dot in the image:-

B0

M11P1 B1
M10P1 B0

B0 is at the start of the code and makes sure the imaginary B axis is in position 0.

M11P1 turns on Output #1 (as soon as the B axis starts to move). Output #1 is mapped to an LPT (parallel port) output pin which is in turn connected to my laser TTL(L) trigger.
Because the imaginary B axis takes time to move from position 0 to position 1, I have adjusted (by trial and error) the steps per unit, Velocity and Acceleration of this axis to produce the required time delay (laser on time).

M10P1 turns off Output #1 and thus the laser trigger as soon as the B axis starts to move back to position 0.

I hope this answers your questions.

Hi John,

I have never been an advocate of belt traverse but I obviously need to do a re-think as you certainly have shown that a high degree of positional accuracy can be obtained with your (hive mind) design.

What sort of things are you planning on making with the new machine ?

Hello Machine Head

Autolisp?

I have an Acad license. If it is not your personal IP I would be very interested in trying it.

Cheers

Autolisp details are here http://www.jefferypsanders.com/autolisp.html

If it's of any interest...

Something very similar regarding axis creep after jogging came up here http://www.machsupport.com/forum/index.php/topic,23460.0.html

As far as I know, it was not resolved.

Absolutely excellent work John - a machine and construction technique to be proud of.  8)

Thanks for sharing.

Hi Riphet,

I am no expert here but in all the cases I have seen...

The motor Acceleration and Deceleration times are specified parameters within the VFD manufacturers setup menu.

Once the CW run signal (M3 in Mach) is received by the VFD, the motor will accelerate up to the actual PWM requested speed over the pre-set time interval. The motor then follows a similar pre-set deceleration interval when the CW run signal (M5 in Mach) is removed.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Mach + Meteor

Hi Greg,

Welcome to the forum.

Just my opinion…

Mach3 will drive your machine and Probotix give the setup details on their website but you must bear in mind that their preferred software relates to the CNC USB Motion Controller and not Mach3.

In general it would be better practice to completely compile your GCode before sending it to the machine as this will avoid any possible starts and stops in the resulting tool-path which could lead to poor edge / surface quality.

If I understand your thoughts correctly, I think you would be pioneering an un-tried method of Mach3 control which may or may not work as intended so you would have to expect a lot of ‘trial and error’ and maybe it would just not be worth the effort.

However, If we all gave up at the first hurdle there would be little innovation or invention so I think you should give it a try.

Hi Deano,

I understand now.  ;)
What you are seeing is just the tool-path display based on the available screen resolution.

In practice the machine will follow a much smoother path when your code is run.

Mach Screens / Re: Half the DRO
« on: February 12, 2013, 12:44:56 PM »
Hi Kenneth,

Welcome to the forum.
You haven't done anything wrong, it is just that your posting has for some reason gone un-noticed, my apologies.

I have read your post a couple of times and I am still unsure what you are asking.

You could add a button to a Mach screen (as long as the screen .set is not protected) which could read a DRO value, half it, then write the new value but I don’t think you could do this within a wizard (although I stand to be corrected). The function would, of course only happen each time the button is pressed.

Hi Deano,

I am a bit mystified - in your Mach3screenshot.doc where are the 'hooks and loops' which you are referring to please ?
