Thank you I should familiarize myself with the manual properly

I don't think you can expect to learn it all (there are parts I still don't fully understand) but the combination of manual and hands-on experience seems to win out in the end.

I can 100% confirm that when entering g0 then the axis and a number it moves to that location in work coordinates. So if you zero x and then enter g0x20 it moves 20mm in axis x and if you enter the same again it doesnt move at all. Is this abnormal?

That is exactly as is should be when working in Absolute mode. The X axis is already at X20 so no movement is necessary.

On the other hand, if you were working in Incremental mode then the X axis would move another 20mm.

IOW how do you prevent this from happening? 

I am not sure you can actually prevent it from happening but on occasions when the .xml is being updated in 'real-time' then making a number of changes to the configuration in quick succession can often cause the problem.

On the other hand, when the .xml is only updated at program close it is very rare for a corrupt .xml to be created.

I think you may have answered your own question - looks like you had a corrupt .xml file (which is not that hard to do when using the Smooth Stepper if you make a number of config. changes too quickly).

There is no problem including the G20 in the initialization string to force the machine to operate in Inch units of dimension.
It is however always best to have Mach3 set-up with separate profiles for Inch and Millimeter units and then choose the appropriate profile at start-up.

Different versions of Mach3 may behave differently when it comes to the units of Feed-Rate so, unless someone else knows for sure, I will have to carry out a few tests on my machine regarding G20/G21 and F#### and report back on this one.

There have been a number of reports of problems with v.066 posted on this and other forums.
May I suggested that you install v0.62 and then see if that resolves the problem you are seeing.

Question is there any problem running Vcarve Pro with Mach4  I just start built my cnc router and purchased Mach 4 and now want to get Vcarve Pro. wanted to know if i will encounter any problems.  The manufacture of Vcarve pro said that it works with Mach 2 and Mach 3,  any input will help.

The Gcode created with Vectric V-Carve Pro works just fine with Mach4.

Ahh, the peculiarities of Mach3 abound.

Obviously there is an explanation but I don't have much interest in why, I just try to remember what works and what doesn't work and then go from there.

Which version of Mach3 are you using ?

(Strange one this because I can run both versions of your Gcode without error).
