Quite right, it's a  Campbell Designs board.

The only thing I have spotted so far is that your Outputs settings are incorrect. Disable all outputs except the Charge Pump (which is set to port 1, pin 17) then see if that makes any difference.

We need a bit more information.

I don't think you have the correct pin configuration for Motor Outputs but this relates to the make of controller.
What make and model controller (the bit that drives the stepper motors) are you using ?
A picture may help.
What make and model Breakout Board are you using ?

Mach3 seems to work best with the older PC's (~1GHz) so I don't think you would notice any difference between 2GHz and 3GHz.
What I have found to be more important is a PCI graphics card with 1GB or greater memory (Mach3 is heavy on graphics and when it comes to large files, turning off the toolpath display may be an advantage).

My solution is to  create a separate Gcode program for each different operation then run them consecutively after changing tools etc. (take care to use the same datum [X0,Y0] for each separate program).

Very very basically there is an incompatibility -  laptops use various power saving features and Mach3, when using the parallel port, places a high demand on processor and graphics. I have one old laptop that works beautifully using the parallel port and two newer laptops that just don't work well with pmcia parallel port cards. This situation was discovered way back by Artsoft - the result is that laptops are not supported for parallel port operation.
