Brains Development / Re: Cubloc, brains and ModIO
« on: April 17, 2008, 10:22:21 PM »
I am just trying to get the brain to talk to my Cubloc.  I can communicate with the cubloc when I am in the Test Modbus screen.  I can turn on and off outputs and read inputs.  Below is my serial modbus set up and the brain file.  When I either click on the coolant button in Mach Lathe or send an M8 code via the MDI screen, I am not getting any output on my address 32 on my Cubloc.   On the cubloc, the address are P1 though P65.

Any suggestion would be helpful.

Thanks Scott, I will work on it over the next couple of days.  Your example should be enough for me to modify to fit my application.

OK, the questions should be, how do I get the tool number to a user DRO? and How can I send that to the Cubloc?  I know how to comunicate with the Cubloc through ModIO.

I am going to try to use a Cubloc to control the tool turret on a CHNC lathe.  I would like to know how I can sent the tool requested information from Mach to the Cubloc via ModIO.  I guess a brain would work, but how does one get the tool number from mach to modio?

Thanks

I plan on using a Cubloc 405 to control the turret on my CHNC lathe.  I am not a programmer and do not know much about the internal working of Mach.  I was hoping someone could get me pointed in the right direction.  What I would like to do is have Mach tell the Cubloc what tool position it wants, then the Cubloc would turn the turret to the correct position and tell Mach it is ready.  I think I can program the Cubloc, but I don's know how to have Mach tell the Cubloc what tool number and how to have the Cubloc tell mach it is there.

Thanks in advanced.

I started with a CHNC that was literally full of rocks, dirt and sand and I just got the X and Z axis moving.  I have been keeping a log of the project here:

You may have to add encoders to the motors if they do not have them now.  It's not that hard to do, but it depends on the motor.  If the motors turn out to have encoders and be a voltage that the Gecko will drive, you may still have to change the encoders as the Gecko will only supply 50mA for an encoder.  But I am getting ahead here.  Once you know what you have then you can figure out your options.

depending on the voltage of the servos, you could go with a Gecko drive.  If they are above 80V then there are other driver options, but more expensive.  If the voltage is not much higher than 80V you could still run them at a lower voltage and just loose a little torque and speed.  I have some 140V servos that are running at 100V DC and can still drive a 4,500 pound machine at 400 IPM.

I used to log in as N4NV, but finally got around to fixing that so I can log in with my name.  I have converted 5 machines to CNC with Mach 3.

Is there any chance of getting a convention here on the west coast?  I realize there are only about 2 of us Mach users west of the rockies, but you east coasters could come out here to get some sunshine.
