LazyTurn / Re: LazyTurn
« on: February 15, 2008, 08:20:21 AM »
Hi Art,

Here's the column profile I had been throwing at LazyCam Pro awhile back... It does not load in LazyTurn. I tried another profile for a pulley, and it loads Ok.

Many thanks for keeping us turners in mind...

LazyCam (Beta) / Re: LazyCAM Beta- Pro installation

Hi Bertho,

A couple of things that may help...

The stand-alone LazyCam 3.00 (Pro when licensed) installer is farther down on the downloads page, after Mach1,2 and Quantum.

Once installed, you need to place a copy of your "LazyLic.dat" file in the LCam folder.

Also... Note: This version requires the ".net 2.0 update" from Microsoft. Otherwise you will get an error at startup.

Tony,

I was just trying to "guilt trip" Art... in a good way.  ;)

He has obviously done coding magic over the last few years... especially remarkable if you read his background on this venture. It has truly been a labor (labour?) of love.

LazyCam has always been a "nice to have" addition, but lower priority than establishing a solid machine controller in Mach3.

I do hope LazyCam continues toward a solid application with wide user support... especially the Turn side. I already have a couple commercial CAM Apps for Mill operations, but am lacking in a comparable Turn CAM App. I have used Mach3 Turn Wizards in the past to generate code segments for each portion of a profile, then hand editing the code segments together for the complete profile with good results.

Turn CAM is more complex than Mill CAM due to the many variables concerning the tool used... tool shape, tool angle, toolholder clearance, reference point on the tool (9 possible locations, including "0" for center of tool), etc. Also, we seeking a Turn CAM solution are small minority amongst the Mach3 user base. Thankfully, Art has a personal interest in having Turn CAM available for his own use. I'm looking forward to any and all improvements to LazyCam's Turn function.

Tony,

Art said he planned on having LazyCam fleshed out by Christmas... all bugs sorted out, Turn fully functional, and documentation done... as I recall.

20+ days and counting!  ;D

I haven't had a chance to try your file in LCam yet. but looked at it in TurboCAD. I noticed the line segments are individual, rather than the profile being a continuous polyline. If your CAD doesn't show them as continuous, you might try converting the profile to continous ployline and trying LCam again.

Hey Paul, ;D I didn't think any one would find that.

Hey Jason,

It brought back memories from the 60's when I was an Avionics Tech in the Coast Guard, at the San Francisco Air Station (behind the San Francisco International Airport). We used to send Christmas text pictures back and forth between Air Stations every year with our RATT (Radio Airborne TeleType). We had rolls of punch tape in the shop someone had done years before I arrived there. Plus we would turn on "record" and let the RATT punch a tape for the incoming pictures... to add to our collection.

LazyCam (Beta) / Re: LazyCam Pro 2.55 Offsets
« on: October 18, 2007, 01:10:01 PM »
Hi Art,

I had been using straight leadins, so didn't recognize that format.... duhhh moment.  ;)

Zooming in or out made no difference trying to create offsets with 0.125" tool diameter.

Also noticed when working with layers... Chains for previously created operations sometimes vanish, leaving the just layer name with no tree item(s) below.

Thanks again, Paul

LazyCam (Beta) / LazyCam Pro 2.55 Offsets
« on: October 18, 2007, 10:57:22 AM »
Hi Art & Brian,

Finally getting back to testing Lcam with the latest version 2.55...

I'm still having problems with offsets on my test dxf, trying to offset on the outside contour. I can offset inside with no problem. However, when I try to offset outside, Lcam won't create the chains if I use a 0.125" tool diameter. I tried other tool diameters with mixed results:

0.0625" => outside offset created
0.1250" => outside offset not created
0.1875" => outside offset not created
0.2500" => outside offset created
0.3750" => outside offset created

Still looking for the option to do spot drill and cycle drill from drill circles. Is there a chance the original drill circle could be persistant, then manually deleted after drill options are completed... similar to Offsets?

I've added a screenshot of artifacts that are created when I click "Clean".

Thanks,
Paul, Central OR

Create a "Finish" tool with a Max Cut p/pass: at your final depth.

Hi Jason,

Even at 1024x768 I get some text "scrunching" since the viewable area is less than 768 pixels high. It may work better if the vertical pixel count is the same as viewable area... maybe with or without the taskbar visible?

I tried to nudge the "LINE:" text box on the "Program Run" page over to the left 4 pixels in Screen4, so it would line up with the outline backdrop. When I opened in Mach3, there were element layer problems with some buttons obscurred and some not clickable. I use an older version of Screen4 without scrolling, since the scrolling version scrambles element position when scrolling is used.

On the Jog Control window... the Up ) and Dn( buttons seem to be redundant. The arrow buttons below seem to do the same thing. Also... my anal mind wants to arrange the "Button Jog" direction buttons in a symetrical grid. ;o)

Thanks,
Paul, Central OR

Hi again Jason,

Just realized this is a regular .set, thought it was Flash coming from you... duhh!

The .zip file has Page 1~8 graphics. Is there supposed to be a Page 9, and maybe Page 50? Tab brings up the shuttle screen without background graphics. The "SHUTTLE/JOG" button is hidden if the taskbar is not on Autohide. Auto Screen Enlarge does solve that issue.

The fonts on the buttons are a bit difficult to read on a 1024x768, 17" monitor. They look great at your 2133x1600 resolution. I resized my set down to 1024x768 and it seems to help.
