Hi! Thank you for sharing this project with us!
Until now there's surprisingly few discussions about HiCON/Integra in here. Maybe most integrations have been as easy as ours (see our thread HiCON/Kuhlmann and some videos on Youtube).
After using Vital Systems dspMC/IP since 2008 and now the new HiCON I must highlight how reliable they are in production when comparing to the first Mach tweaks... We have now close to 4000 production hours with one of the very first dspMC/IP controllers here!!
Our next cas will be old CNC lathe where Bosch Alpha 2 was used to control 2 pcs 20 Nm DC servo's and sturdy 16 kW spindle motor (servo).
This is clearly a case for dspMC/IP as the control is classic +-10V.

General Mach Discussion / Re: M-command speed and delays

Answering to a question I sent long time ago. I just noticed I have not explained how the workaround was made to get rid of the Mach3 slow IO.

Finally I made a dsp-macro to the dspMC/IP board. I use axis commands G1B1 and G1B0 to trigger the dsp-macro that turns beam on/off. The same macro also gives out the real vector speed to be used in laser PWM control for corner slowdowns.

OK. Bored with explanations and too large pictures...

You can skip to first raw video clip of how it works now:

Modified control:

I took the easy way and kept the original 6A steppers after making short trials and finding out the machining speed can be at least 4 X higher with new microstepping RTA drivers. Other possibility was conversion to Yaskawa AC servo's.

In the old wire connection box lays now the whole new control.

HiCON Integra controller
4 x RTA 6A drivers (XYZ + R)
56 V 5A SM PSU for steppers
5 V PSU for logic
24 V PSU for IO

Woops.. I need to get the size set but where's the edit button..

Here's the firs impression of the machine.

Made in Germany year 1983.
19" Rack taller than me full of electronics to control 3-axises. 3PH 400V supply 16A.
Frame surprisingly made totally out of cast iron and steel. HEAVY!
Moved with stepper motors - full step if I understood right.
Max. machining speed 600 mm/min. Positioning ca. 5000 mm/min.
Precise 700W spindle with water cooling 10-35 k rpm.

Next task - stripping all electronics and most of the wiring and some cleaning.

HiCON Motion Controller / HiCON integration - Kuhlmann mill/engraver

Am I the early bird again as there seems to be not much discussion on HiCON board?
Maybe integration with HiCON has been so easy for other people too - there's not much to ask?

Anyhow I'll share a few words about this control upgrade case I made recently as it was the easiest case I've had thus the control was new to me. VitalSystems I've known for years and our first dspMC/IP has been running in production for several thousand of hours now.

In next to the case itself.

For cutfront handling with different molten material viscosities.

So. No other ways than using macro to change tuning parameters?

dspMC/IP Motion Controller / Re: AxisWorks tuning
« on: September 15, 2010, 02:18:28 PM »
Hi.

I'm not sure if there's one only way to do the adjusting but in the axis works I have not used the S-curve as you need to know how the motors work in step response ie. with sharp start and stop too.

I have done both servo amplifier adjustment and dspmc adjustment in Axisworks first and then used a simple G-code commands to check the combination finally with mach and recording the step response with servo driver adjustment program (Omron servo's).

If you use high speeds - remember to check that your system is making circular interpolations equally in all directions as different parameters in X and Y axises can lead to oval circles! If you keep it slow - you propably don't notice this.

General Mach Discussion / Acceleration

I need to use different accelerations during one work. Is the 'motor tuning' the only way?

I saw a macro made for setting motor tuning parameters in G-code. This is the 'state of the art' in setting acceleration?
