General Mach Discussion / Mach code to GCD
« on: November 16, 2006, 03:09:19 PM »
Can anyone tell me if I can save or convert my existing g code files that I made in mach 3 to a g code file with a .GCD file extension ( whatever that is ) so that  another mill I have just aquired can read it?
Thanks in advance

General Mach Discussion / Thanks a bunch!

I recently built a cnc router purely as a hobby and a learning exercise using mach 3.  Your forum was  great at solving a couple of issues.  I have, however, just finished machining 150 components in pvc as a paid job and got such a buzz watching it at work and, with the added bonus of it actually earning me some dosh,  that I just had to send all you guys at Artsoft my thanks for providing such a brilliant product.

Third party software and hardware support forums. / spindle motor
« on: September 19, 2006, 05:43:02 PM »
Can anyone suggest a supplier for a nice quiet spindle motor for a home made cnc router.  I get
fed up with the noise from a conventional wood router and induction motors are a bit on the slow side. About 1000 watts would be ok for me.

General Mach Discussion / Re: Text Wizard
« on: August 24, 2006, 09:18:37 AM »
I have been wondering, if when i use the text wizard the IJ mode should be set to "incremental" instead of "absolute" in the "state" dialogue box.  When i change it "incremental mode" and run the text wizard I still have the same problem.  When i then check the mode in the "state" box it has changed itself back to absolute.  Why is that then?

Hi Hood,
You are a good lad trying to help out.  I uninstalled mach 3 ( which doesnt uninstall the "addon" folder and so I deleted that manually and then downloaded mach 3 again .  I still get the same results.  I can use other wizards like "cut circle" - "cut arc" etc but the "write wizard" keeps giving me the same results as described before. Who said computers were easy!!!!

Hi,
I guess you mean settings within the wizard.  I type "ben"-  letter height 40 - seperation 100 - feed rate 300 - metric units - start point x50 y 50 - italic font - When it loads the g code there are 54 lines which most are " G01 x50 y 50 I 50 J50" and this "zero radius arc line 11" error message.
I loaded mach 4 on my office pc ( not the machine pc ) the other night just to have a look at lazy cam and the same thing happened when I tried it out.  Very odd.  As I said I have no trouble when using mach 2.

Can anyone answer this query please?    I have no trouble using the text wizard when running mach 2 but when I change to mach 3 all I get is loads of lines of  G01 x50 y50 I50 J50 and error messages saying  "zero radius arc on line  ***********  Everything else seems to work ok.  Thanks in advance.  Is there a more comprehensive Text wizard available anywhere?

Hi Brian, Yes the engineer e mailed me friday night - the first direct communication I have had.  Did you contact them and put a rocket up them for me?  If so it has worked and I am very gratefull. He has sent me some screen prints of dialogue boxes which I have tried out today mainly to no avail but has promised to contact me on monday with his latest xml file and more support. To see the motors actually turn in jog mode though, albeit with uncontrolled direction has, together with the engineers promise to sort it, has cheered  me up . This forum is a brilliant idea and it is fascinating to be helped by people all round the world. Well done.
Thanks very much to you and hood for your interest and suggestions.  will keep you posted.

I cant believe it - I can jog the motors - nothing else yet.    The problem is it jogs only one way.  If I jog minus the motors jog minus and if I jog plus the motors jog the same way = minus.  Any ideas?
